The Rapid Action Battalion arrested three suspected cadres of Hizb ut-Tahrir (HuT) in front of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on September 30, reports Daily Star. The arrestees are identified as Rashidul Islam alias Rana (22), a 4th year student of electrical engineering and Ahmed Sajid Hasan (22), a 3rd year student of civil engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and SM Arafat (19), a 3rd year student of BBA at International University of Business Agriculture and Technology. Deputy Director of RAB-3 Chowdhury Md Hamid Al-Mahbub said they arrested the HuT cadres while they were distributing leaflets containing anti-Government statements.

A Bangladeshi court is set to frame charges against 52 suspects, including Paresh Barua, chief of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), and top Islamist leader Matiur Rahman Nizami in the country’s biggest ever arms smuggling case when 10-truck loads of arms destined for the banned Indian separatist group were seized on April 1, 2004, PTI reported. According to reports, the court has set the date on October 25 for framing the charges. The CID has sought INTERPOL assistance to arrest Paresh Barua who is among the 41 absconders in this case.

A team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials arrived in Bangladesh to probe into the Delhi High Court blast case (September 7, 2011), Indian Express reported. The team, headed by an SP, left for Dhaka recently and quizzed some of the Kashmiri students studying in Jalalabad Ragib Rabeya Medical College and Hospital at Sylhet, near Dhaka, claimed officials. The NIA team has so far questioned two students including a girl, both hailing from Kishtwar District in Jammu and Kashmir about the conduct of Wasim Akram, who is at present in NIA custody. Both students have been let off after the NIA team, which was provided assistance by the Bangladesh authorities, found nothing to back their investigation, the sources said.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested six alleged cadres, three of them women, of the militant outfit Hizb-ut Tawhid (HuT) with leaflets and books of the organisation from Rajshahi City early on October 9, Daily Times reported. The arrestees were identified as Md Sujan, his sister Mina Begum, Altaf Hossain, and his two daughters -- Monika, and Shikha Parvin, and Md Sajal. On secret information that the Rajshahi District Ameer (chief) of HuT was holding a meeting at the house of Md Sujan in Baje Kajla area of the city, a team of RAB-5 led by company commander Squadron Leader Kamrul Islam raided the area around 4:30am BST and arrested the six, according to a press release. The team also seized 200 leaflets and 10 books of the organisation, two photographs of Imam Bayazid Khan Panni, founder of the outfit, and two diaries from their possessions.

A special tribunal in Brahmanbaria District sentenced six militants of the banned Islamist outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad-al Islami Bangladesh (HuJI-B) to various terms of imprisonment in four separate cases on October 13, Daily Star reported. The convicts were identified as Shamsul Islam Mollah, , Musa Miah, Maulana Hedayetullah, Saiful Islam Sajib alias Saifullah ,Jamal Miah and Mizanur Rahman. An unofficial report said that the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) Head Quarter (HQ) located at Satcherri in Bangladesh had recently fallen to National Liberation front of Tripura (NLFT) following most of the remaining ATTF militants joining hands with their rival-NLFT, reports Tripurainfo. In this regard, unofficial sources said, “The process began last year when ATTF suffered a vertical split with Sachindra Debbarma launching a coup against the president Ranjit Debbarma. Both the ATTF and NLFT were already suffering severe financial crisis and loss of manpower and hold following steady and continuous surrenders of top leaders and lower level cadres with arms”.

Officials of National Investigation Agency (NIA) claimed that at least two students having affiliations with ICS, along with India-born Wasim Akram Malik, who was a student in a medical college in Sylhet, were involved in the blast that killed 15 people and left nearly 80 injured. Officials claimed to have identified the ICS members and are now seeking diplomatic help in tracing them. The duo is reported to have travelled with Wasim to India on August 27, first visiting Jammu and then Delhi. A team from NIA is already camping in Bangladesh.
