On July 15, two individuals identified as Nangpynphriang Rymbai and Mani Phawa was arrested from unspecified place in Meghalaya in connection with the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion at the Police reserve premises at Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills District of Meghalaya, reports East Mojo. The IED blast at Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills District on July 14, as reported in South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP), was claimed to be the handiwork of banned militant outfit, Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC). Though no casualty was reported, yet the explosion led to a loss of property. In an email on July 14, ‘general secretary’ of HNLC, Saiñkupar Nongtraw, stated that the IED blast was an ‘act of revenge for killing and torturing our members in the past by the police’.
In a separate incident, arms and ammunition was recovered from Gabil area of East Garo Hills District of Meghalaya on July 14, reports The Shillong Times. A hidden cache of explosive components including 2.25 kilograms of gelatin explosive sticks (Class-2, Division- 2, Cat- ZZ), eight number of Non-Electric Detonators, 10 clippers, cello tape and around three meters of safety fuse for use during detonation were buried underground by suspected militants.
