According to Press Trust of India, five Naxalites surrendered and a Maoist courier was arrested in the Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh on January 9. Of the five surrendered Naxalites, one belonged to the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), one to the Prajapratighatna and three to Pratighatna factions. Separately, police arrested Bojja Boddaiah, a Maoist courier, near Bodu village and recovered two weapons from his possession, according to The Hindu.

On January 13, two militants belonging to the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) and United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) respectively surrendered before the 29 Assam Rifles at Jairampur in Arunachal Pradesh. The Military, meanwhile, urged the deserting LTTE cadres in the east to surrender on January 15, as operations against the insurgents' camps intensified, according to Associated Press. Village heads in Ampara district were told to deliver the announcement to outfit cadres who were in hiding or on the run after four outfit bases and seven smaller camps fell to Military control last week, said Military spokesman Brig. Prasad Samarasinghe. Meanwhile, the outfit spokesman, Rasiah Ilanthirayan, said, "It is not an issue worth commenting upon. Now and then they (military) make such meaningless announcements, but we are not bothered." He, however, admitted that Sri Lankan forces had moved into some outfit -held areas in Ampara, saying, "Off course they made advances to our territory in Ampara, but then in Ampara we operate in a guerrilla mode," adding, that they are continually on the move.
