Three suicide bombers attacked the Police and other security officials in two different attacks, on April 24, resulting in the killing of 10 Policemen and injuries to another 15 in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, reports The News. In the first incident, a suicide bomber drove his motorcycle into a Police truck, on Airport Road, due to which seven Balochistan Constabulary personnel were killed, Home Secretary Balochistan, Ghulam Ali Baloch, said. It was not clear whether the third bomber was wearing an explosive vest or if the bike was filled with explosives. According to sources in the law enforcement agencies, an estimated 20 kg of explosives were used in the attack. These cops, deployed as the security detail for the visiting president of the Azad Kashmir, were returning from duty when the attack took place. Half an hour earlier, three Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were killed and six others injured in Mian Gundi area, when two suicide bombers tried to attack the check post in an attempt to enter the FC camp but the personnel engaged them. Hizbul Ahrar, a splinter group of Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA), claims responsibility of the attack.

At least five Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were injured on April 9 when a suicide bomber blew himself up near their vehicle in Belili area of Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, reports Dawn. Aslam Tareen, the Director of Civil Defence, confirmed that it was a suicide blast and 8-10 kilogrammes of explosives was used in the attack. At least six persons – among them three Chinese engineers – were injured in a suicide attack on a bus in the Dalbandin area of Chagai District in the morning of August 11, reports The Express Tribune. The bus carrying Chinese engineers was being escorted by Frontier Corps (FC) troops to the Dalbandin airport from Saindaik cooper and gold mines when the bomber tried to drive his explosives-laden vehicle in to the bus. “The explosives-laden vehicle exploded near the bus on Quetta-Taftan Highway – and as a result three Chinese engineers, two FC soldiers and the bus driver were injured,” an unnamed Levies official said. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack.

Three militants were killed in an attempted suicide attack on Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir Rao Anwar when his convoy comes under attack in Malir Cantt area of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, on January 16, reports Dawn. SSP Anwar remained unhurt in the attack, Police said, adding that a suicide attacker blew himself up near the convoy while two other attackers were killed in retaliatory fire by Policemen. The convoy came under attack by militants when SSP Anwar was heading towards his home in Malir Cantt. At least four Policemen travelling in the convoy sustained bullet wounds. SSP Rao Anwar survived an attack earlier on May 1, 2015 during which assailants hurled grenades and opened fire on his convoy while he was returning home from the residence of slain Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Fateh Muhammad Sangi.

Seven people, including five Policemen, were killed and 16 others, including eight Policemen, injured in a suicide blast by a Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant near GPO Chowk on Zarghoon Road of Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, on January 9, reports Dawn. The suicide bomber targeted the Police contingent returning from duty at the Provincial Assembly building and rammed into the parked Police truck. Inspector General (IG) of Balochistan Police Moazzam Jah Ansari said that he could "tell in advance" that the suicide bomber must have come from across the Afghanistan border. At least 20 persons, including Awami National Party (ANP) leader Haroon Bilour, were killed in a suicide blast which targeted an election gathering of ANP in Yakatoot area of Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in the night of July 10, reports, Dawn. The blast took place when Haroon Bilour, who was contesting elections from PK-78 constituency, arrived at the site where the ANP workers had gathered for a corner meeting. Bilour suffered serious injuries and was shifted to the hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Qazi Jameel said that more than 30 people were injured in the explosion. Mohammad Khurasani, the spokesperson of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility of the blast. Haroon Bilour was the son of senior ANP leader Bashir Ahmed Bilour who was killed when a TTP suicide bomber blew himself up in a party meeting in Peshawar on December 22, 2012.

A suicide bomber targeting a political rally of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) on July 13 killed at least 128 people and injured over 200 others in Dringarh village of Mastung District in Balochistan, reports The Express Tribune. Among those slain was the candidate for Province Balochistan – 35 (PB -35 (Mastung) Siraj Raisani, whose elder brother Nawab Aslam Raisani had served as the Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) from 2008 to 2013. Provincial Information Minister Malik Khuram Shehzad confirmed the attack was a suicide blast and added that the bomber detonated in the middle of a compound where the political meeting was taking place. Most of the victims were resident of Kanak and Dringarh who had invited Raisani to announce their support for him. “Siraj was attending the corner meeting in Dringarh, was about to step on to the stage to address party workers when the suicide bomber, disguised as a political worker blew himself up,” Mastung District Collector (DC) Qaim Lashari said. According to the bomb disposal squad (BDS), up to 15kg of explosive material was used causing a large number of victims as the corner meeting was packed with people. Islamic State (IS) claimed the responsibility of the attack. Meanwhile, the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) ‘Ghazi force Lal Masjid’ wing in a WhatsApp massage also claimed responsibility for the attack.

Three Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were killed and two others injured in a suicide bombing at a check-post on the Quetta-Karachi highway in the Khud-Cocha area of Mastung District of Balochistan on June 4, reports Dawn. According to official sources, the suicide bomber blew himself up near the FC Aziz check-post in the Khud-Cocha area of Mastung. “A young man wearing an explosive-laden jacket tried to enter the FC check-post and when he was challenged by security personnel, he blew himself up near the check-post,” security officials said. “As a result of the explosion, three FC personnel were killed on the spot and two others were injured,” sources added. The deceased were identified as Subedar Munir Jan, Sepoy Ahmed Jan and Pervez Ahmed. Sepoy Nasir and Sepoy Irshad were injured in the blast.

The attack was claimed by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in a statement sent to AFP, in which it threatened more attacks on Police in retaliation for killing their “associates” in Punjab. Eyewitnesses, investigators and circumstantial evidence suggest that the suicide bomber had targeted the Police at the time of change in shift at around 9pm. At least 70,000 followers of Tablighi Jamaat were present at the annual congregation.

Three people were killed and 13 others sustained injuries when a Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) bus was hit by a suicide bomber in the Dhok Gama area of Attock city (Attock District) in Punjab on May 3, reports The Nation. Initial reports suggested a man riding a motorcycle first opened fire on the bus carrying employees, before detonating his explosives. According to District Emergency Officer (DEO) Dr Ashfaq, the attacker opened fire on the bus as it slowed down at a speed breaker on Basal Road. When the driver of the bus, identified as Muhammad Akram Niazi, disembarked and attempted to overpower the attacker with the help of a passer-by, the bomber blew himself up, killing himself, the driver and the passerby identified as Habibur Rehman. The bus was heavily damaged in the powerful blast. No group has claimed the responsibility for the attack as yet.

Two Policemen lost their lives due to multiple injuries caused by explosive material, while a private security guard was injured in the blast. The Police officers were identified as Assistant Sub-inspector Ashraf Dawood and Constable Amir, while the private security guard was identified as Muhammad Juman. Two civilians, a father and son, named Zahir Shah and Abdul Karim, were also killed in the attack. Three terrorists were killed in the operation by Security Forces (SFs).No Chinese national was hurt in the attack. The heavily-guarded E-Street neighbourhood, which is considered a red zone, is home to a number of upscale restaurants, diplomatic missions and schools. BLA via its Twitter account claimed responsibility. The group also released images of three young men, Azal Khan, Raziq Baloch and Raees Baloch, claiming that they were theattackers assigned with the task to target the consulate.
