Militants launched a major attack on a Security Forces’ (SF) fort in the Landikotal area of the Khyber Agency on April 17, reports Dawn. The attack came one day after Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) revoked its 40-day-long ceasefire. Official sources said that the militants had fired bullet rounds and mortars from the adjoining mountains at a weapons depot situated inside the fort that is controlled by the SFs. The residents heard several explosions caused by the exchange of fire between the militants and the SFs. Some of the locals added that they had seen flames rising high from the fort. According to sources, some unspecified numbers of suicide bombers were reported to be among the attackers. The SFs also returned the fire and targeted the militants’ positions with mortars and artillery rounds. The extent of material damage and the number of casualties could not be ascertained due to a lack of access to the area. No official version of the incident has been issued so far.
