Naxalites of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) shot dead a political functionary, Bandla Srinivasa Rao, at Guthikonda village in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh on January 11-night alleging that he was a police informer. The action of the Naxalites is reportedly being seen as a counter to the death of a woman sympathiser of the party in Prakasam district on January 8 in an alleged encounter. Protesting the encounter on January 11, CPI-Maoist cadres had blasted a house and left a letter at the spot saying that they would continue to kill activists of the ruling Congress party till the police stopped encounters.
