A former Dalam (squad) 'commander' of the outlawed People's War Group (PWG), who had recently established the "New Radical Yuvajana Sangham," was killed in an encounter with the police on the outskirts of Sanugula village in the Karimnagar district of Andhra Pradesh on March 11. During combing operations near the village, under Jammikunta police station limits, police reportedly came across three left wing extremists-Naxalites- and in the exchange of fire that followed, Kurre Odelu alias Shankar was killed. However, the other two Naxalites escaped. A spring field rifle and five live cartridges were recovered from the possession of the slain Naxalite.

In the encounter that followed, according to The Hindu, Sinha was killed on the spot, while four police personnel were injured. Two self-loading rifles, a carbine and an unspecified quantity of ammunition were taken away by the Naxalites, who were engaged in a fierce encounter with security forces soon after the incident. According to the Bastar Range Inspector-General of Police Giridhari Nayak, the Naxalites triggered landmine blasts and opened fire near a grocery shop in Golapalli village in the evening in which a teacher and a student, were killed on the spot.
