The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel arrested four militants of the Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Dhaka’s Kalabagan area on January 3, reports Daily Star. The arrestees are S.M. Abdul Goni (25), Abu Huraira Bin Aman alias Shams (22), Mohammad Shahnewaz Al Maruf (22), and S.M. Ashrafuzzaman (30). RAB recovered three laptop and three desktop computers, seven mobile phone sets, some publications on JMB, a motorbike, huge number of CDs and a cash amount of BDT 68,000 from their possession. According to RAB, Goni is the convenor and Maruf is a member of JMB's invitation branch (Dawati Shakha) while Shams is the chief coordinator of its recruiting and training unit and Ashrafuzzaman is a member of the outfit.

Six militants belonging to the Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT) were arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Jhigatola area of Dhaka, the national capital of Bangladesh, on January 20, reports Daily Star. Police arrested one Ibne Mizan alias Sentu (25), a militant of Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT) outfit, from the PC Culture Housing area of Dhaka on February 23, reports Daily Star. 104 posters containing anti State and anti Government statements were recovered from the possession of arrested militant, when he was pasting those posters at the walls along with his three other associates, who managed to escape. The Government banned HuT, an extremist organisation, on October 22, 2009.

Police arrested four Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT) cadres from Adabar area of Dhaka during the last five days in separate search operation, Daily Star reported on February 27. Inspector Attaur Rahman of Adabar Police Station said that following a tip-off they arrested Ibne Mizan Sentu (22), an honours student of Mohammadpur Central University College, on February 23. Following the confession by Mizan, the law enforcers arrested three others in two separate search operation in the night of February 26 and February 27, the official said. The three students were identified as Ahmed Hossain (21) of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology; Mushfiqul Islam Lincon (21) of American International University of Bangladesh; and Fakhrul Hasan Jiban of University of Asia Pacific. During preliminary investigation, they admitted to be active cadres of HuT. A huge number of leaflets containing anti-Government statements, posters and books were recovered from the possession of the arrested cadres.

Daily Star reports that, Gopalganj Detective Branch of Police on March 10, arrested nephew of Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HUJI-B) ‘Chief’ Abdul Mufti Hannan and his five associates at Motbari village under Kotalipara sub-district of Gopalganj District. The arrestees were identified as Amin-Ur-Rahman (27), and his aides Imran-Ur-Rahman (30), Shimul Taj (22), Borkat Ali (35), Haidar Ali Sheikh (31) and Bipul Adhikary (18). All of them hailed from different sub-districts of Gopalganj, Madaripur and Jessore Districts. Police recovered a China made 7.62mm pistol, 15 gram ganjja, four small packets of heroin and 14 bottles of phensidyl from Amin's house.

Kushtia Councilor of Meherpur Municipality, Mizanur Rahman Ripon who was severely injured in a bomb attack on April 1, died at Apollo Hospital in the Capital city of Dhaka on April 8. A case was filed with Meherpur Sadar Police Station on April 2. The accused in the case are President of Meherpur District Awami League (AL) Golam Rasul, General Secretary Kazi Miajan Ali, and the incumbent Mayor of the Municipality Mutasim Billah Motu and General Secretary of District Unit Jubo League Abdullah Al Mamun Bipul. Police arrested Bipul and another activist of the same unit Abdul Momin soon after the incident. Later, the complaints against Golam Rasul and Kazi Miajan Ali were withdrawn from the case on April 3.

Sabbir (51) is an accused in carrying out bomb attacks on an Udichi programme in Jessore and a Pahela Baishakh celebrations event at Ramna Batamul, The other arrestee Ainul Haq (28) was coordinating recruitment and secret training of HUJI-B militants. Analysis of such activities suggests they were planning to carry out subversive activities". Farid was playing a vital role to reunite Afghan War participants with some other top leaders of HuJI-B for the last few years, sources in Security Forces (SFs) stated. According to RAB, he is accused in four cases, two for Ramna Batamul carnage in April 2001, one for a grenade attack on an Awami League rally on Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21 in 2004 and the other for planting a 76 kilogrammes bomb near Sheikh Hasina's rally venue in Kotalipara in 2000. RAB claimed that Farid was acting as the HuJI-B ameer (chief) and under his leadership the outfit was reuniting and recruiting members through its District and different madrassa units. He had also served HuJI-B as the ‘general secretary’ and organising secretary and ameer of Dhaka and Chittagong District units. Regarding HuJI-B funding, Farid told that they get financial aid from some 3,000-4,000 associates working in different countries of the Middle East. Afghan War veteran Farid is trained to operate anti-aircraft missile, tank and other sophisticated weapons. He also fought against Myanmar forces for the Arakan Muslims in 1995-96. Farid went into hiding after law enforcers started reinvestigation into different bomb and grenade attacks that saw arrest of a number of HuJI-B leaders including its former chairman Abdus Salam.
