Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 10 suspects of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Dhaka city on January 9, reports The Daily Star. Of them, at least four were former colleagues of fugitive top JMB militant Maynul Islam Musa, a suspect in the July 1, 2016 Gulshan café attack.RAB said the 10 arrestees used to try to motivate the guardians of schoolchildren into militancy. None of the arrestees took part in terrorist activities. Their role was to increase members of the militant group and to promote its ideology among a target group of people through invitation.

Islamic State-linked Neo-Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (Neo-JMB) leader Jahangir Alam alias Rajib alias Gandhi, another mastermind of ‘Dhaka cafe attack’ was arrested by Bangladeshi Police's Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit from Elenga in Dhaka late in the evening of January 13, reports Business Standard. Rajib is one of the main masterminds of the Gulshan's Holey Artisan Bakery (cafe) attack in Dhaka's diplomatic area that killed 23 people, including 17 foreigners, CTTC Chief Monirul Islam said. Police said Rajib's name surfaced during investigations when they found that he served Neo-JMB as the ‘commander’ of the outfit for the Northern Districts. Earlier, South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP) had reported, Police, on January 13, arrested Fazlur Rahman Taher alias Raj (23), a militant of JMB from his Pabnapara home in Natore District while planning to carry out subversive activities.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on February 1 (today) arrested four Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) militants from Jatrabari area of Dhaka city, reports The Independent. The arrestees were identified as Ashfaq-e-Azam Apel, Shahinuzzaman, Ashraf Ali and Mahbubur Rahman. The arrestees are members of Neo JMB's Sarwar Tamim group while Ashfaq-e-Azam Apel is the chief of IT section of the militant group. A key ‘organiser’ of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), Redwanul Azad Rana, along with his ‘associate’ Ashraf were arrested on February 20,soon after the duo had landed in Dhaka, after being deported by Malaysian authorities, reports Daily Star. The deported militant was the main planner of the murder of blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider on February 15, 2013. Blogger and Shahbagh movement activist Rajib was hacked to death near his house in Mirpur area of Dhaka. Afterwards, a Dhaka court on December 31, 2015 awarded death penalty to Rana, also a former North South University (NSU) student, and another NSU student Faisal Bin Nayem alias Dweep. Six others, five NSU students and ABT ‘chief’ and ‘spiritual leader’ Jashim Uddin Rahmani, were awarded different jail terms.

Police said the prison van came under the attack around 5:30pm while Mufti Hannan and his aides were being taken to Kashimpur jail from a Dhaka court. Two bombs were tossed at the van but those went off on the road missing the target. Police escorting the prison van arrested a young man, Mostafa Kamal (22), from the spot and recovered a bag containing two patrol bombs, two sound grenades, two crude bombs and two machetes. Another attacker fled the scene. The arrested youth reportedly confessed to Police that he exploded the bombs targeting the prison van in exchange for BTK 10,000. However, it was not clear who hired him for the job.

Hafiz is one of the five convicts in a war crimes case of Karimganj in Kishoreganj.
