On January 9, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel neutralized a hideout of the banned Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and recovered locally-made iron cases, used for making grenades, and a large amount of explosives. The recoveries were made at the Badda locality of capital Dhaka. The seizure included 34 kilograms of power-gel packed in 68 packets (each containing 500gm), 40 improvised iron casings for making grenades, four kilograms of ammonium nitrate in eight packets (each containing 500gm) and a book on Jihad. Two persons were arrested in connection with the incident. Further, another person was arrested at Narsingdi. The arrested were identified as Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil Ullah alias Shaikat, Hassan Ali alias Hridoy, and Shoyeb alias Jahir.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel arrested a cadre of the Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) with bomb-making materials and cartridges at Karatia Bazaar in the Sadar sub-district of Tangail district on January 12. According to Daily Star, Arman, aged 25, was arrested after two arrested JMB cadres, Hassan alias Hridoy and Shoyeb alias Zahir, provided information regarding him. The bomb making material and other items seized include 500 grams of zinc oxide, 100 grams of carbon powder, 800 grams of lead nitrate, eight plastic boxes, some masks, 16 plastic circuit boards, three cartridges, 11 negatives of films, 53 audio cassettes and one mobile phone set.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel arrested two Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) cadres in Kalihati sub-district of Tangail on January 26, reports Daily Star. The arrested militants have been identified as Mohammad Nazmul and Abdur Rahman of Balla village. The arrests reportedly took place following the information provided by another JMB cadre, Mohammad Shipon, who was arrested on January 24 by the Kalihati police. RAB sources said that the arrested militants are class ten students of a school at Balla and are actively involved in the activities of the outfit.

JMB cadre Saiful Islam, a teacher of Bulbuli Girls High School in Islampur sub-district of Jamalpur was arrested from his house at Dhengragar village on April 3 and some documents were recovered from him. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel arrested seven members of a little known militant outfit, the Hijbe Abu Omar (HAO) from different places in and outside the capital Dhaka since March 29. According to Daily Star, while tracking an abduction incident, personnel arrested HAO member Mahadi Hasan alias Kwafi at the city's Badda area on March 29. Following Kafi's statement, Abu Yusuf alias Sagar alias Shourav and Nazmul Haque were arrested from different places in the capital. Acting on information extracted from the three detainees, RAB personnel with the aid of local police, recovered two revolvers, a shutter gun and 10 bullets from Mohammad Bayezid, caretaker of Nurul Ulum Jamia Madrassa (seminary) in Bhaluka. Subsequently, explosives and other materials, enough to manufacture four homemade grenades were recovered from Akramuzzaman, imam of Sardabari mosque at Shaestabad in Barisal city on April 4.

However, it was still not known on what charges Arafat Rahman was detained and where he was taken. A couple of hours before Arafat was arrested, top officials of the joint forces reportedly had gone to Khaleda's residence and advised her to leave the country. She is learnt to have told the joint forces that she is ready to face any consequence but will not leave the country. Five militants of the Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), including two top leaders, were arrested in a series of raids by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Dhaka and Mymensingh on July 9 and 10, reports Daily Star. The leaders were identified as Asadul Islam alias Arif, a member of JMB's reconstituted Majlish-e-Shura (the highest decision-making body), and Anwar Hossain alias Faruq, a Shura (governing body) member. The others were the outfit’s regional commander for Mymensingh, Shafiqul Islam alias Rakib, Sagar Hossain alias Sayem and Saiful Islam. Arif was convicted in absentia for the killing of two judges at Jhalakathi on November 14, 2005. Six others convicted in the same case, including the outfit’s chief Abdur Rahman and his deputy Bangla Bhai, were executed in different jails on March 29, 2007. Two 9mm pistols with nine bullets, seven computers, a large number of compact disks and books on jihad were recovered from the arrested militants. Hasan Mahmud Khandakar, Director-General of the RAB, told New Age, "We succeeded in breaking the backbone of the banned outfit, but we decided to intensify our drives to nab the outfit’s members who are scattered throughout the country".
