In an interview to CNN-IBN, somewhere in the jungles of south east Manipur on an unspecified day, the Chairman of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), R. K. Meghen alias Sanayaima, warned that the State is soon going to witness a flare-up as his outfit plans to take its war for ‘liberation of Manipur’ into the streets, by sparking a civil unrest. "You will see some sort of an intifada….Part of the strategy is to tell the world that something is happening here [Manipur] and you are morally obliged to come to our help. India should not be allowed to simply massacre our people”, the UNLF chief claimed. He reiterated the demand for a plebiscite in Manipur. Further, Sanayaima revealed that his outfit had asked politicians and bureaucrats of the State to allot funds to the outfit. "We ask MLAs, ministers, bureaucrats to do what is beneficial for the people….We want to tell them that they (MLAs, ministers and bureaucrats) have to join the people when the people rise up. Otherwise they don't have any future," he said.

The Press Trust of India has reported that besides using its cadres for triggering bomb and grenade blasts in Assam, the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) is now "enticing" school and college students to detonate explosives by bribing them with money and consumer goods. Tinsukia district Deputy Commissioner Absar Hazarika said on October 13 that students in his district were "bribed with money, cars, motor-cycles and cell phones to explode bombs and grenades in public places." Interrogation of Jolen Moran, who had carried out a recent grenade attack in the oil town of Digboi in the district, injuring a shopkeeper, revealed that he was a class 12 student at the Tinsukia Somar Bidyapith, Hazarika said. The ULFA was paying for Moran's education and his rent in return for his services, he said. The arrest of three other ULFA cadres also revealed that the youths, who were between 18-25 years old, were studying in college, Hazarika added.
