A key Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leader Chambala Ravinder alias Arjun along with his wife Wetti Adime alias Ranitha surrendered before Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Sharma on August 1, reports The Hindu. The surrendered couple was involved in many Maoist related incidents in Chhattisgarh and was carrying a reward of INR 2 million and INR 500,000 respectively on their heads. According to DGP Sharma, Chambala Ravinder decided to surrender due to differences with the Central Committee leadership of CPI-Maoist over certain issues.

Bhima had joined the Maoist organisation in the year 2009 in Kalimela and became active armed cadre later and was currently functioning as ‘area committee member’ (ACM) of Podia Local Operation Squad (LOS) under Malkangiri division of the CPI-Maoist. He was involved in different Maoist violence in Podia and Kalimela area since 2009, while his wife, who had joined the organisation in the year 2012, was a member of Jana Natya Mandali of Podia Dalam (squad) of the CPI-Maoist.

Around 18 TPC cadres had taken shelter in the house of a fellow villager, Balram Sahu, when a huge squad of over 250 Maoists swooped down on Choti Kauriya village and killed some 14 of them while four of the cadres managed to flee. After the mass killing, the Maoists took away all the bodies before Police could reach the spot and Maoist ‘spokesperson’ Manaj Ji later claimed responsibility for the killings, saying it was a revenge for the Chatra attack on March 27, 2013, when the TPC had killed 10 of their aides. Acting on a tip off about presence of 10 PLFI cadres, a team of Bano Police and CRPF raided the area. Seeing the Security Force (SF) personnel coming, the cadres opened fire, and in SF retaliation, hardcore armed cadre Panchu Badaik was killed on the spot, while another cadre Bharat Singh alias Tharthare, sustained bullet injuries and was shifted to Ranchi Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) where he succumbed to injuries, Simdega Superintendent of Police (SP) Aseem Bikrant Minz said.
