On February 10, Punjab Police arrested an associate of Canada-based terrorist Lakhbir Singh alias Landa, identified as Vijay Kumar alias Toti and his three aides, namely, Amardeep Singh alias Patwari, Sooraj Singh and Rahul Lahoch, from Jalandhar District in Punjab and recovered four pistols including two .32 bore country-made pistols along with 10 live cartridges, one 9 mm country-made pistol along with two live cartridges and one .12 bore country made pistol along with one live cartridge from their possession, reports Tribune India. The Delhi High Court on February 10, sought a response from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (UMHA) on current status of pendency of National Investigation Agency (NIA) cases in two specially designated courts at Patiala House, New Delhi, reports The Hindustan Times. Justice Jasmeet Singh sought the response during the hearing of the plea moved by Manzer Imam, a suspected operative of the Indian Mujahideen (IM), who is an accused in a terror case under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and was arrested in August 2013. He is in custody for the last nine years, but the charges have not been framed against him till date. A report filed by the Delhi High Court stated that as on July 31, 2022, four NIA cases are pending before the Principal District and Sessions Judge Patiala House Court and 39 NIA trial cases are pending before the specially designated NIA court. One appeal is also pending.

Police claim that Bhagwanpuria and his associates are in communication with their accomplices having links with banned Pro-Khalistan groups, namely, Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and Sikhs for Justice (SFJ). On February 17, Union Ministry of Home Affairs (UMHA) notified pro-Khalistani outfit Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) as terrorist organisation under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), reports The Tribune. “KTF is a militant outfit and aims to revive terrorism in Punjab and challenges the territorial integrity, unity, national security and sovereignty of India and promotes various acts of terrorism, including targeted killings in Punjab”, UMHA statement reads. All of them were accused in the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala on May 29, 2022. “Our investigation has indicated that the accused in this high security zone were divided into two groups—Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang and Lawrence Bishnoi gang. It seems the three victims, who are members of Bhagwanpuria gang, were attacked by the gang members of Lawrence Bishnoi”, Police stated. The officials have stated further that the teams were investigating to ascertain the exact reason behind the clash.
