The districts where these searches took place include Moga, Barnala, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Tarn Taran, Ludhiana, Gurdaspur, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (SBS Nagar), Amritsar, Muktsar, Sangrur, Patiala, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) in Punjab and Sirsa in Haryana. The raids led to the recovery of digital data containing information related to those accused of being involved in the attack on the High Commission and other incriminating documents and evidence.

On August 3, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment in its report titled “Drug abuse among young persons: Problems and solutions” revealed that as many as 6.97 million children aged between 10-17 years are narcotics users in Punjab, reports The Tribune. As per the report, Punjab has over 6.67 million narcotics users, including 2.136 million consuming different types of opioids. The committee also stated the number of drug users in states such as Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra are exorbitant.

Investigations revealed that he played a crucial role in facilitating terror activities by funding and assisting his aide Amrinder alias Bunty and sending financial aid to him from Spain to execute target killing of religious leaders. The accused was working at the behest of some foreign-based people linked to the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) and had been using two pseudo-Facebook accounts for promoting radical content including activities of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ).

According to data from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) presented in Parliament, the Border Security Force (BSF) till June 30, 2023 recovered almost 248 kilograms of Heroin (narcotics) from the Indo-Pakistan border in Punjab, which is five times the contraband recovered from the eight other border states, which is close to 50 kilograms, reports Tribune India on August 9. The data shows that in the last three and a half years, the BSF has recovered close to 1,560 kilograms of Heroin from Punjab. “Detailed vulnerability mapping has been carried out along the border to strengthen surveillance by deploying additional special surveillance equipment and other available resources at vulnerable patches,” the MHA said.

National Investigation Agency (NIA) on August 9, filed two supplementary chargesheets against 12 key operatives of the Lawrence Bishnoi and Bambiha gangs, as part of its probe into terrorist-gangster-drug smuggler networks, reports NIA. In the supplementary chargesheets, the NIA named three members of the Bishnoi gang, including Lakhbir Singh, alias Landa of terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), and nine members of the Bambiha gang, including Sukhdool alias Sukha Duneke, Chhenu Pehalwan, Daler Kotia, Dinesh Gandhi, Sunny alias Vikram, and four others (name not stated), an NIA spokesperson said. With these, the total number of accused chargesheeted by the NIA in the two cases, both registered on August 26, 2022, went up to 38, NIA statement reads. The accused are involved in terror-criminal activities, targeted killings, and logistic support across international locations.

On August 31, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) in a joint operation with the Mohali Police arrested six associates of Pakistan-based Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist Harwinder Singh alias Rinda identified as Roshan Kumar, Saurab Kumar, Vikram Kumar, Amrinder Singh alias Billi, Arshveer Singh, and Sunny in Zirakpur Town of Sahibzada Ajit Singh (SAS) Nagar District in Punjab, reports The Tribune. On August 31, two Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) operatives identified as Pritpal Singh alias Kaka, and Rajwinder Singh alias Kale, responsible for vandalizing Delhi Metro Property with pro-Khalistani messages scribbled on five metro stations at various locations in Delhi on August 27, were arrested by Delhi Police in Faridkot District of Punjab, reports Hindustan Times. Both persons were tracked based on the CCTV footage near the station areas while further investigation is being carried out. SFJ Chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannun had promised to pay them USD 7,000 for the task and had provided an advance payment of USD 3,500 through Western Union. They had communicated with Pannun on the Signal app and had contacted him after completing the task.
