According to The Hindu, in press releases issued on April 1, the proscribed terrorist groups, Kanglei Yawol Kunna Lup (KYKL) and Revolutionary People's Front (RPF), have asked the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to ‘end’ election-related activities in Manipur. The KYKL has also owned up responsibility for the March 31-attempt on the life of the BJP vice-president Naorem Tombi. According to the KYKL, he was given the "death sentence" as he ignored the outfit’s warning to distance himself from the party president, Thounaojam Chaoba, who was given the "death sentence in absentia" for his alleged "inexcusable activities."

Tombi, and one of the general secretaries, Sarath Singh, has resigned from the party in view of the ‘ban’ on campaigning imposed by the proscribed outfit, the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL). Tombi's resignation came four days after the KYKL made a bid on his life on March 30. According to media reports, on April 7, the Hmar People’s Convention-Democratic (HPC-D) and the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) have signed a ‘truce agreement’ during a meeting held at the residence of L B Sona, chairman of the Zomi Council, at an unspecified location in Manipur. As part of the ‘agreement’, a fresh ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ was also signed by nullifying the one that was signed on January 8. Heavily armed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) cadres targeted eight polling stations in the Jiribam area of Imphal East district and took a total of 64 polling officials hostage, besides seizing the EVMs, said P Doungel, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police. Assam Tribune reported that unidentified terrorists opened fire targeting CRPF personnel at a polling station in Wangu Sabal and Ningthoukhong areas, bordering interior Thoubal and Bishnupur districts. They also detonated bombs before opening fire at the CRPF personnel at Wangu Sabal and in the subsequent encounter, one CRPF personnel and two civilian drivers were killed. In another incident at Ningthoukhong Mayai Leikai polling station in Bishnupur district, one CRPF personnel was wounded.
