Two employees of a private road construction company were assaulted by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, and at least six vehicles were set on fire in the Haldiya Ghati area under the Chhatarpur Police Station limits in Palamu District of Jharkhand on August 23, reports indiatvnews.com. Around 15 Maoists reached the road construction site and beat up two clerks of the company, Chhatarpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ajay Kumar said. "Maoists also torched six vehicles, including trucks, engaged in the road construction," he said, adding that it was suspected that Maoists conducted the attack on the site for ‘levy’ (extortion money).
Three cadres of the Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC/TPC), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), identified as Govind Yadav, Shambhu Parhiya, and Moti Sao, were arrested during a special anti-Maoist operation in Chhatarpur sub-division area in Palamu District of Jharkhand on August 23, reports republicworld.com. "The operation is still underway to nab other members of the organisation," Chhatarpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ajay Kumar said.
