The Madhya Pradesh cabinet, on August 22, approved the state's first Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) Surrender, Rehabilitation-cum-Relief Policy 2023, reports Deccan Chronicle. Under the policy, the surrendered Maoists will get INR 500,000 or the money equivalent as a reward for their arrest, whichever is higher. If they are unmarried, they will be given INR 50,000 each for the wedding. They will also be given INR 150,000 each to build their house. If a Maoist surrenders with a weapon, he or she will be given an additional incentive ranging from INR 10,000 to INR 40,000. They will also be eligible to get INR 150,000 for professional training to start their business. Furthermore, families of surrendered Maoists will have access to benefits under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana and Food Assistance Scheme. The surrendered Maoist who helps in the elimination of a Maoist will be recommended for the post of constable in the Police department.
For those affected by Maoist violence, provisions include an INR 1.5 million payout to the victim’s family in case of a citizen’s death due to violence, INR 2 million for the family of deceased security personnel, and INR 400,000 for physical disabilities. If a citizen dies in Maoist violence, the bereaved family will receive a Class III or IV job opportunity. Additionally, the cabinet has sanctioned higher allowances for Police officers and employees, along with an increase in dearness relief for state government pensioners and family pensioners effective from July 1, 2023.
