Security Forces (SFs) averted a major incident with the timely neutralising an improvised explosive device (IED) in Gogo area of Budgam District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in the night of September 20, reports Daily Excelsior. The area is close to several sensitive defence and civilian installations, including Srinagar airport, technical airport, headquarters of Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry of the Army.
Internet and phone services in Uri sector of J&K were suspended on September 20 after Army reported a major infiltration bid by a heavily armed group of militants during the intervening night of September 19-20, reports Kashmir Observer. The General Officer Commanding (GoC) of the Srinagar-based 15th Corps or Chinar Corps, Lieutenant General D P Pandey said that the operation has been ongoing for the last 24 hours after “we felt that there is an infiltration attempt which has been made”. “We are looking for them…are they on this side or have gone back after making an attempt, that issue has not yet been clarified or verified on the ground,’ he said.
Separately, GoC Lieutenant General D P Pandey said there is no need to worry about the possibility of a spill over of Taliban militants into J&K as people will be kept safe, reports Greater Kashmir. "This question has been asked to me a number of times on events which are unrelated. Right? So, I will again answer your question: why are you worried? You are safe and you will be kept safe. There is enough effort," GoC Lieutenant General D P Pandey. The GoC said if anyone picks up arms, they will face consequences and will either be neutralised or apprehended, or will have to surrender. "I am not looking at questions on Taliban or foreign terrorists or local terrorists. For us, it has got nothing to do with the quality and quantity. If there is a gentleman who picks up a weapon, he will be neutralised either way -- by getting killed or by getting apprehended and if he comes and offers (to) surrender, we will take surrender," he added.
