Banned Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) Party ‘central committee’ (CC) has extended support to the Bharat Bandh (all India shut down strike) on September 27, reports The Times of India on September 20. In a press statement issued on September 19, Maoist ‘CC spokesperson’ Abhay stated that the party supports the Bandh call, given by farmers against the Centre’s farm laws, and the ongoing peasant movement for the past 10 months. The Maoists condemned the Yogi Adityanath Government for making a bid to curtail Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU)’s Kisan Maha Panchayat, which was held in Muzaffarnagar on September 5. Hindutva forces brought Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to power at the Centre and were instigating riots in Uttar Pradesh (UP). Sixty-two persons had died in attacks by Hindutva forces and 50,000 people became homeless since 2013. They were trying to foil the farmers’ agitation; however, the farmers were advancing towards success against Hindutva forces for the past 10 months. He stated that the Maoist party stands with the farmers and salutes their struggle, Abhay said.
