Afghan Special Forces repelled an attack near the Jalalabad airfield in Jalalabad city of Jalalabad District in Nangarhar Province on March 6 killing four militants and destroying three suicide vests, three magnetic Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and 1 vehicle-borne IED (VBIED), reports Khamma Press.
A Taliban ‘District Shadow Governor’ for Chaparhar District in Nangarhar Province, identified as Shaheen, was killed in an air strike on March 5, reports Khamma Press.
Further, a ‘commander’ of the Haqqani Network, Mullah Mirwais, was arrested in Jalalabd city of Nangarhar Province on March 5, reports Khamma Press. The Ministry of Interior in a statement said that Mullah Mirwais alias Kamran was arrested during a joint operation of the police forces and security personnel belonging to other National Defense and Security institutions. According to the Ministry of Interior, Mullah Mirwais was leading a group of 40 militants in Nangarhar Province and was involved in planning and coordinating several suicide attacks and assassination of individuals in this province.
Meanwhile, the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack on a private construction firm in Nangarhar Province, reports Khamma Press. According to a statement released by the provincial government, a soldier of the Special Forces of Afghan Intelligence also lost his life in the attack. SATP had earlier reported that Taliban was involved in the attack and 16 workers and five militants were killed in the incident.
