Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres reportedly abducted a youth, identified as Sanjay Tati, and killed him after branding him a ‘police informer’ in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on January 1, reports The Times of India. Tati (25), was a resident of Tarem Police Station area, was found lying on the Road Rehabilitation Project (RRP)-I Awapalli-Jagargunda road. Bijapur, Superintendent of Police (SP), Anjaneya Varshney said that some Maoists abducted Sanjay from Kursampara village on December 31. The Jagargunda area committee of CPI (Maoist) claimed responsibility for the incident, SP, Varshney said, the Maoists also dropped pamphlets near the dead body branding him as a ‘police informer’, adds Hindustan Times.

The cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) killed a villager after branding him as a ‘police informer’ at Tumdiwal village under Pungarpal Police Station in Kondagaon District of Chhattisgarh on March 5, reports mp.punjabkesari.in. According to Police, armed rebels struck at Tumdiwal village on March 4 and abducted six villagers engaged in a religious function when the Maoists raided. They took the villagers inside the forests and interrogated them to ascertain whether they were working for the Police and passing on information about their movements. The rebels freed four villagers on March 4 evening and detained the other two. Sources said one person somehow managed to escape from their custody. The Maoists brutally killed the other, identified as Baramasi Nag, a resident of Tumdiwal Kotmeta Para, and left the body near the residence of a former Sarpanch (head of the Panchayat, village level local self-Government institution) of the village.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed a Sarpanch (head of the Panchayat, village level local self-Government institution) in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on march 7, reports The Times of India. Sarpanch Pune Sanna of Pongabhejji Gram Panchayat was abducted by a group of armed Maoists, who intercepted his way near the village when he was returning home on March 6 night. His body was recovered the next day on the road, at Rabdipura, on the outskirts of the village, with his throat slit. Sources said it was an attempt to create terror among the villagers so that they don’t participate in development activities or work in collaboration with the Police or administration.

Two persons, including a former deputy Sarpanch (head of the Panchayat, village level local self-Government institution), of Zara village in Narayanpur District of Chhattisgarh, were abducted and allegedly killed by suspected cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) accused of acting as ‘police informers’ in the Bastar division on March 28, reports The Indian Express. In the first incident, Ramji Dodi was abducted along with his two nephews and taken to a jungle (forest) where he was allegedly strangled to death by the Maoists in Narayanpur District. The nephews were released with Ramji’s body and a letter saying that he was killed because he was a ‘police informer’. Ramji was the deputy sarpanch of the village five years ago. In the second incident, Madkam Raju (22), was abducted from his house and killed by Maoists on suspicion of him being a ‘police informer’ in Bheji village in Sukma District on March 28. A group of Maoists from Konta committee of CPI-Maoist attacked him with an axe, said the Police. Sukma Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Sharma said, “Raju was not an informer. This is the frustration of Maoists who are losing their domination.”

Churachandpur District Police recovered a cache of arms and explosives, including one Ladies carbine with a magazine–01, four Single barrel (SBBL), two AK 56 Rifle with the magazine, three camouflage bags, two Chinese hand grenade, one Lathod live rounds, three Pistol, 76 AK 56 ammunition, 22 single barrel ammo and three empty cases and four 9 mm rounds in a search operation against Kuki Independent Army (KIA) militants near Songphu village in Henglep subdivision of Churachandpur District in Manipur on April 16, reports Northeast Now. Police also rescued three of the five civilians whom KIA militants abducted. One of the three rescued villagers, identified as Lhunkhopao Haokip, who sustained a bullet injury on his left knee during the exchange of fire between the Police and the KIA, was evacuated to Churachandpur District Hospital. Earlier, SATP reported that the KIA militants raided the Chongkhojou Horep SoO (Suspension of Operation) camp and looted arms and ammunition in the Churachandpur District of Manipur.

Dharmaiyya, a resident of Aaipenta village under Ilmidi Police Station limits, was found dead by some locals on a hill on June 19, a senior Police official said. A pamphlet was recovered from the scene, in which Maoists have claimed that the victim was acting as a ‘police informer’, the Police official said, adding that Dharmaiyya’s son was also killed by Maoists in 2020.

Bastar Inspector General of Police (IGP), Bastar Range, P Sundarraj said: “The abducted deputy sarpanch is believed to have been kept somewhere south of the Chintalnar-Jagargunda axis. The Sarv Adivasi Samaj has issued an appeal for his release. Many villagers, including some school students and teachers, have also gone to appeal. A few have returned and others are still in the jungle.” According to sources Madvi has been produced by the Maoists before senior cadres at a ‘jan adalat’ (Kangaroo court of the Maoists). The whole village was present at the Kangaroo court, and by evening, most of the villagers had returned. Four to five locals were also asked to stay back by the Maoists.

"The deceased constable Budhram Avalam was on leave and went to his home village, Jangla. On Wednesday (August 30), he went to Gangaloor to drop off his nephew on a motorcycle. While returning from there, Maoists ambushed him and then abducted him," Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Chandrakant Gowarna said, adding, "The Maoists then killed him in the forest and threw his body on the road. While the abduction took place on September 29, the incident has been confirmed by the Bijapur Police only after Maoists, in their standard style, claimed the abduction by releasing a press note anonymously on October 4. The Maoists stated it was the work of their People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), the military wing of the CPI-Maoists, who are interrogating the jawan, and “their decision will depend on the next stand of police administration”.
