Police and residents said New Bharath Stone Crusher which is close to the Chekkeri Kurichya colony near 24th Mile was vandalised and set afire by a gang of five around 2.30 am after they threatened employees at gunpoint. The tribal community had complained against this unit many times.

The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres retaliated to the killing of one of its senior leaders Sharath and a militia member near Korukonda shandy on October 19, 2014, after it killed a native of Veeravaram village Sanjeeva Rao, by destroying an ashram of Sanjeeva Rao’s spiritual guru Simhachalam at Gurramveedhi village in G. Madugula mandal administrative unit on January 17 night, reports The Hindu. During the October, 2014 incident Sanjeeva Rao’s guru Simhachalam escaped from being tried at a ‘praja court’ while the Maoists were attacked. The Maoists had also beaten up six persons in the Ashram and burnt down furniture and other material and a shed and some vehicles. An earth-moving equipment engaged in laying a nearby road was also set on fire. The Korukonda local area committee was responsible for the incident. Along with some Maoists, a large number of militia members and sympathisers allegedly participated in the incident. They reportedly left pamphlets and hung a banner saying that the Ashram was attacked in retaliation to the killing of Sharat and the militia member and that Simhachalam would not be spared.

The Maoists blasted a railway track at Muniguda in Rayagada District on January 23 night, leaving movement of trains affected for several hours along the route, reports The New Indian Express. The blast spot was a few hundred metres away from a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp. Though the track suffered damage, no casualty was reported from the incident. CPI-Maoist had given a bandh call in five districts of the State protesting the visit of US President Barack Obama.

Suspected Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres triggered an explosion on the Visakhapatnam-Raipur railway line at Munikhol near Muniguda Railway Station in Rayagada District on January 24, injuring one railway staff and blowing up a portion of the track that led to disruption of train services on the route, reports The Business Standard. The blast was triggered in the wee hours by a low intensity Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that damaged about one metre of the track, said Rayagada Superintendent of Police (SP) K Sibasubramani. Vansadhara-Nagabali and Ghumusar division of the CPI-Maoist has claimed responsibility for the blast saying they were opposed to the forthcoming India visit of US President Barack Obama.

The insurgency-hit Bastar region of Chhattisgarh witnessed intensified Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) activities on January 25 and 26, reports The Hindu. The Maoists felled trees and dug up roads leading to traffic disruption. They damaged drill machine of the NMDC’s (National Mineral Development Corporation) Kirandul plant in Dantewada District and damaged National Highway 30 in the previous evening. The Maoists also abducted two passenger buses in Katekalyan area of Dantewada in the night of January 25. “Buses were released after some time. Maoists wrote some slogans on the bus,” said R.K. Vij, Additional Director-General (ADG) of Police, anti-Naxal operations. Further, the Maoists damaged railway track between Kirandul and Bacheli town and opened fire on Chintagufa and Timilwada Police camps in Sukma District in the morning of January 26.

The office of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at Kalamassery in Kochi of Ernakulam District was vandalized by unidentified miscreants claiming to be affiliated to the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) on January 30, reports The Hindu. Police said there were no eyewitnesses to the incident. The building also does not have any CCTV cameras. “A woman who works as a sweeper at the office arrived around 7 a.m. and left by 8.30 a.m. As usual, she left the building unlocked for a member of staff who arrived around 9.15 a.m.,” said Kalamassery Circle Inspector of Police C.J. Martin. The man informed higher officials and the Police when he found smoke coming out of the office and a few files lying on the floor in flames. The attackers left pamphlets protesting against the acquisition of land for the National Highway expansion and privatization of public organizations. The pamphlets claimed that the attack was carried out by CPI-Maoist. ‘CPI-Maoist’ was also scrawled in black letters on the walls of the office.

Villagers rounded up 16 of the 40 armed persons who had allegedly posed as Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) supporters and attacked Tangapalli village of Odupa gram panchayat (village level local body) in Sadar block of Malkangiri District of Odisha on February 2, reports The Hindu. They were detained in the local school building by angry inhabitants of Tangapalli. Rest of the members of the group are said to have escaped. Villagers seized several traditional weapons from the attackers. Three attackers and a villager sustained injuries during the scuffle between the two groups. Bhagaban Padiami, the local nayab sarpanch (deputy head of gram panchayat), whose house was attacked by the armed group, said that the attackers had shouted ‘Lal Salam’ and claimed to be Maoists asking him to provide chicken and goats. “The 16 detained persons were rescued from the villagers by the Police and brought to Malkangiri Police Station on February 3. They are being interrogated to ascertain whether they had any links with Maoists or not,” said inspector in charge of Malkangiri police station Rajkishore Dash.

The vehicles were parked at the site where road construction work was underway when they were set afire, Inspector General (IG) of Police (Bastar Range) SRP Kalluri said. Around 12-15 armed Maoists, clad in black uniforms, stormed the place with kerosene and asked construction workers to leave the site. Some villagers asked them not to hamper development works in the region but the ultras did not pay heed to them and set ablaze the vehicles, the IG said. While six tractors belong to locals, the rest of them were belonged to a construction firm, the IG said. Villagers have lodged a complaint in this connection at Dhanora police station, the IG said.

All official documents were gutted in the explosion and the roof of the office blown off. The Maoists left a written warning that no villager should work for any forest department programme such as plantation, protection monitoring etc. “Around 50-60 Naxals (left Wing Extremism, LWE) came at midnight, took two of the cylinders in our stock to the range office and ignited a blast. All documents were gutted in the fire,” said a senior forest official. “Naxals have warned the villagers not to work for us in any manner,” he added. Banka Superintendent of Police (SP) Satya Prakash said nine labourers were injured in the incident, of which three have bullet injuries. The torched vehicles include two SUVs, two tractors, an excavator, an earthmover and a motorcycle. "The incident happened near Dudhiyatadi village along Odni River where a bridge is being constructed by Chaubatiya Constructions. It seems to be a fall out of levy (extortion) demand by Maoists," Prakash said. "The ultras then torched the vehicles parked there and fired indiscriminately while retreating. Three labourers were hit by bullets. All the injured have been admitted to Banka Sadar Hospital," the SP added.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres on July 25 abducted two tribals and damaged three houses in Gobbaripada village in Rangabayalu panchayat of Munchingput mandal in Visakhapatanam District of Andhra Pradesh, reports The Times of India. According to sources, more than 100 armed Maoists and militia members entered Gobbaripada village, 40 km from Munchingput mandal headquarters bordering Odisha, and completely damaged one V Deenabandhu's house and removed the sheets from the roof of one V Lycon's house. They also destroyed a clay-tiled house of P Ramanna after beating the trio. Eventually, the villagers protested when the Maoists tried to torch Ramanna's house. The Maoists later abducted P Ramanna and P Dobbulu as well as two women from the village suspecting them to be Police informers. However, they released the women on their way to other villages, where a few more alleged Police informers were staying. After the incident, the entire village of over 30 houses became vacant after all the villagers fled for their lives.

On December 12, the Maoists set ablaze a mobile tower at Kathargada village under Ramgiri Police Station limits in Koraput District, reports The New Indian Express. According to sources, over 20 armed Maoists came to the village at night, damaged the electrical gadgets of the mobile power station and later torched the tower. They also left a poster at the spot stating that their act was a mark of protest against the private company’s efforts to spread mobile network in the area.
