Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) 32nd Battalion arrested a wanted Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre identified as Janaki Koda, during a search operation conducted on the secret information about the presence of Maoists in New Barmasia and Bankura of Kajra Police Station area in Lakhisarai District of Bihar on January 3, reports prabhatkhabar.com. Koda is accused of shooting and killing Chhotu Saav, the driver of Ganesh Rajak, the then head of Bhalui Panchayat (village level local self-Government institution) on August 19, 2019, and a case has been registered regarding this in Chanan Police Station. Apart from this, a case has been registered against him in Piribazar Police Station. He is accused of planting Improvised Explosive Device (IED) bombs and firing on the Police force. Koda has been sent to judicial custody.

Jamui Police arrested a woman Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre identified as Renuka Koda alias Renu Koda, carrying a reward of INR 50,000, in Jamui District of Bihar on January 13, reports livehindustan.com. More than half a dozen cases are registered against Renu in Munger, and Superintendent of Police (SP), Jagunathreddy Jalareddy said that soon Renu will be taken on remand in Munger cases. Renu, a resident of Saradhi village under Ladaitand Police Station area of Munger District, used to provide food and water to Maoists first and later joined the Naxalites' [Left Wing Extremist, LWE] ‘Marak’ (killing) Squad and was carrying out Naxal activities by staying with wanted Maoist Parvez.

A wanted cadre of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), identified as Dablu Vishwakarma alias Shakti Vishwakarma, was arrested from Tandwa Police Station area in Aurangabad District of Bihar on February 2, reports The Times of India. Following a tip-off that the wanted cadre was hiding at Vishunpur village under Tandwa Police Station limits, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) launched a joint search operation and arrested Dablu Vishwakarma, who was wanted in several cases, including the 2018 assault on Rampravesh Mehta, a resident of Hussainabad village in Palamu District of Jharkhand, and demanding ‘levy’ (extortion money). Later, he was handed over to Hussainabad Police of Palamu District.

The special team of the Special Task Force (STF) arrested a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Ratu Koda, during a raid in Chowkia village under the Laxmipur Police Station area in Jamui District of Bihar on March 23, reports livehindustan.com. In a second raid on March 23, Maoist cadre Doman Koda was arrested from Simra Tari under Kajra Police Station in Lakhisarai District. Half a dozen cases are registered against both the Maoists, and their involvement has also been found in many Naxalite [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] activities. Cases have been registered against both of them under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and other serious sections. STF was looking for these two for a long time.

Bihar Police in a joint operation with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Special Task Force (STF) arrested two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, wanted in over 20 cases in Bihar and Jharkhand, from the Chakarbandha area in Gaya District of Bihar on April 7, reports Hindustan Times. Wanted Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Rambabu Ram alias Rajan, ‘secretary’ of the Western Zonal Committee (North Bihar), and Rambabu Paswan alias Dheeraj, his aide and a ‘zonal commander’, has been arrested by Bihar Police and the Special Task Force (STF) based on the received intel in West Champaran District of Bihar on May 4, reports jantaserishta.com. According to the Police, two AK 47 rifles have also been recovered from them. The Bihar Government has announced a reward of INR 500,000 on Rambabu Ram. Six cases were registered against both of them in connection with the attack on Madhuban SBI bank and murder of the bank guard in Madhuban block under Madhuban Police Station in East Champaran District in 2005.

Top Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leader Dilip Das alias Rakesh Da, who blew up the Khaira block office premises in the year 2012 and carried out many violent incidents in various Police Station areas of Jamui District in Bihar, has been arrested by the Police from Jamui Court Chowk on May 9, reports prabhatkhabar.com. Acting on information that Dilip, resident of Dokali village of Sono Police Station area, is traveling in the urban area of Jamui for a special work plan, a special team reached near Kachari Chowk and arrested him. During interrogation, it was revealed that in the year 2015, Dilip was given the status of ‘zonal committee member’ in Bihar Jharkhand Frontier Zonal Committee. He is one of the few Maoists who started revolutionary activities from the very early days. He had joined the Communist League and the Revolutionary Democratic Front in the 90s.

In the first incident, Maoist cadre, Subhash Thakur alias Anup Ji, wanted in connection with Dumaria incident, was arrested from Pakri village under Sohail Police Station area in the district. Reportedly, an armed squad of the Maoists had triggered landmine explosions and resorted to indiscriminate firing on the Police team near Bhaluaha hills on the outskirts of Baltharwa village under Dumaria Police Station area on June 11, 2012, in which one Police jawan (trooper) had died in the incident. In the second incident, the Police arrested Bhola Paswan, a resident of Ahuri village under Amas Police Station area in the district on June 15. Bhola had been absconding for the last around nine years in a case of setting on fire a Poclain machine at Barhi in Hazaribagh District (Jharkhand) on September 29, 2014. The driver of the Poclain, Yogendra Yadav, had lodged a written complaint against around 10-15 unknown Maoists, who had threatened to shoot the Poclain owner if their demand for ‘levy’ (extortion money) was not fulfilled. The Police arrested wanted Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Yogendra Koda, was arrested during a search operation conducted by SSB, STF and District Police Force, from Lathia Kodasi under Piri Bazar Police Station area in Lakhisarai District of Bihar, reports etvbharat.com on June 26. "Continuous search operation is going on against Naxalites. Yogendra Koda was arrested in this sequence. Police was looking for him for a long time. Naxalites are on backfoot due to continuous police action"- Pankaj Kumar, Superintendent of Police (SP), Lakhisarai. Yogendra was involved in an encounter with the Police in Madhuri Kol area of Piri Bazar in the year 2019. On June 26, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a fourth accused, identified as Anandi Paswan alias Anand Paswan (46), in the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) terror funding case in connection with efforts being made for the revival of the banned outfit in Magadh Zone of Bihar, from Nirakhpur village under Kinjar Police Station limits in Arwal District of Bihar, reports daijiworld.com. The NIA said that Paswan has more than five criminal cases registered against him in various Police Stations of Bihar. “This is the fourth arrest in the case, related to the terror financing network being jointly operated by CPI (Maoist) cadres and Over Ground Workers (OGWs) in the Magadh region,” said a NIA official. The official said that Tarun Kumar, Pradyuman Sharma and Abhinav alias Gaurav have been arrested earlier by the NIA. The NIA had filed a charge sheet against two accused in the case on January 20, 2023. The NIA investigations so far have revealed that the proscribed terrorist organisation, CPI-Maoist, was trying to raise funds for procurement of arms and ammunition and recruitment of new cadres to further its designs for reviving itself in the Magadh Zone area. They were liaising with Naxals [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] and OWGs incarcerated in various jails in order to revive and strengthen Naxal activities in the region.

The NIA had announced INR 500,000 and the Jharkhand government INR 2.5 million as rewards for any information about him. More than a dozen cases are pending against him in Bihar and Jharkhand. The Special Task Force (STF) of Bihar Police and Dhibra Police conducted a joint operation in Jharna Mahulan and its surrounding forest areas and arrested Birendra and sent him to judicial custody. Aurangabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Swapna Gautam Meshram said about a dozen cases have been registered against Birendra in various Police Stations in Aurangabad and Gaya Districts of Bihar and in many districts of Jharkhand. Rohit is a resident of Lathibar village in Bhabua block of Kaimur District, while Pramod is a native of Sosuna village under Badeya Police Station in Gaya District. The joint team also recovered a loaded revolver (Sixer), a country made gun 'katta', 16 live cartridges, a booklet and a bike from the possession of the arrested cadres. The District Police have busted an illegal gun factory which was used to manufacture arms and ammunition for the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), and arrested three accused persons, including the factory operator, in Kaimur District of Bihar on August 9, reports Hindustan Times. During the raid in the Adhaura Forest area, the Police recovered ready and semi-made firearms, equipment and material used in manufacturing guns, pistols and bullets along with Maoist pamphlets, incriminating literature and receipt books, officials said. The three arrested accused identified as Ramsurat Singh, Vijay Shankar Singh and Ayodhya Singh – confessed to manufacturing firearms for Maoists and repairing their weapons for over two decades. Earlier in 1998, Ramsurat Singh was arrested and jailed for making illegal firearms, the Police said.

Security Forces (SFs) arrested a top Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) idealogue and ‘politburo’ member, Pramod Mishra, and his associate, Anil Yadav in a joint operation in Gaya District of Bihar on August 10, reports Hindustan Times. Gaya senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ashish Bharti said Mishra and Yadav were arrested in an operation conducted on a tip that Mishra was in Jarhi Tola village under Tikari block of the district to meet a relative. According to Police records, Pramod Mishra hailed from Kasma village in Aurangabad District and joined the Maoist Communist Centre of India (MCC) in the early nineties. He was elevated to the central committee of the CPI-Maoist which was formed in 2004 after the merger of the MCC and People’s War Group (PWG). In 2007, he was made a member of the CPI-Maoist ‘politburo’ and became the in-charge of its operations in Delhi at the 9th Party Congress and was believed to have played an important role in expanding the outfit’s base in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir. His name also figured in the United States Country Report on Terrorism in 2006. A Police officer said he had eight known aliases such as Sohan Da, Shukla Ji, Kanhaiya, Jagan Bharat, Noor Baba, Biwi Ji, Agni and Ban Bihari.
