Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre Vijay Yadav, the ‘secretary’ of the Northeast area of Bihar and Jharkhand of CPI-Maoist, was arrested during an operation by a joint team of Special Task Force (STF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) from his house in Bhalgodi village under Jhajha Police Station limits in Jamui District of Bihar on January 8, reports hindi.news18.com. Arrested Maoist Yadav was also an assistant to the top leader Pravesh of the CPI-Maoist, as well as he used to provide essential goods for Naxalite [Left Wing Extremist, LWE] incidents. Police was also looking for it in the case of explosive ammonium nitrate recovered from Sono Police Station area in recent days. It is said that Jamui Police had recovered a huge quantity of explosives from Jhajha Police Station area in the past. After this it was revealed that there was a conspiracy to blow up several under-construction bridges in Sono Police Station area of the district at the behest of Maoist leader Pravesh.

Four cadres of the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), which is mainly active in Jharkhand, were arrested in Buxar District of Bihar late on January 10 night, reports Hindustan Times. Police said, those arrested were identified as Nivesh Kumar Poddar, Subham Poddar, Dhruv Kumar Singh and a woman whose name not disclosed, and all are wanted in separate cases in Jharkhand and were operating from Khunti, Dhurwa, Khelari and Ranchi. Upendra Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Shahabad range, said, “Buxar police received information that some wanted PLFI members were travelling in a car bearing registration number of West Bengal and were passing via National Highway 84. A police team set up barricades on Veer Kunwar Singh Setu around 11.50 pm and apprehended them. Huge amount of cash and mobile phones have been recovered from their possession.” Buxar Superintendent of Police (SP), Sudhir Kumar Singh said that the Police team recovered INR 1.2 million cash, 19 cell phones and a luxury car from their possession. SP, Sudhir said the Jharkhand Police on January 9 had issued a lookout notice against Nivesh and Subham after an FIR was lodged against them in Ranchi on January 6. A Police team from Ranchi reached Buxar late January 10 and will produce them before the court to take them on transit remand, he added.

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and District Police have arrested two hardcore Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres identified as Ramji Bhuyan and Phulendra Sao by conducting a combing operation in Aurangabad District of Bihar on January 17, reports hindi.news18.com. Superintendent of Police (SP), Kantesh Kumar Mishra said that Bhuyan is a resident of Koilwan of Madanpur Police Station area, while Phulendra is a resident of Ankuri village under Goh Police Station area. SP, Mishra said that there are a dozen serious cases registered against Bhuyan including attack on Madanpur block office and CRPF camp. At the same time, a dozen cases including ‘levy’ (extortion money) recovery, murder are registered against Phulendra from the contract company engaged in road construction work.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Ramdular Yadav, allegedly active in extorting contractors and businessmen and involved in expanding the Maoist-base, was arrested by a joint team of Police and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) from the hilly forest areas of Kaimur plateau in Rohtas District of Bihar on March 4, reports Hindustan Times. Yadav, a resident of Banda village under Nauhatta Police Station had been active for a decade and was raising funds and recruiting cadres to strengthen the extremist organisation on the plateau, Superintendent of Police (SP), Ashish Bharti said. On a tip off that Yadav was to come to the market, the Police and SSB cordoned off the area and launched a search. The Maoist was arrested when he was trying to escape after seeing the forces. Yadav confessed his involvement in cases of extortion and other activities for which 2 cases were already registered against him with Tilothu Police Station under sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Unlawful activities prevention Act (UAPA).

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) ‘Central Core Committee’ member Mithlesh Mehta aka Mithlesh Mahto aka Rohit aka Abhishek aka Bhikhari aka Gehun Da (58) was arrested from Delho on Mahapur Road under Amas Police Station limits in Gaya District of Bihar on March 8, reports livehindustan.com. Mehta, accused of blowing up the building of a government school in Sondaha village under Banke Bazar Police Station and a member of the ‘Central Core Committee’ of CPI-Maoist. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Harpreet Kaur said that in the year 2007, the Police had arrested Mehta and he was in jail for 11 consecutive years till 2018. After leaving the jail, in the year 2019 and 2020, he organized Naxalite [Left Wing Extremist, LWE] activities by staying in Chhakarbandha area of Gaya. Jamui Police received a tip-off that some Maoist operatives have taken shelter in the forests of Gidheswar and Sikandra Blocks. "We cornered the Maoist group in Gidheswar jungle and managed to put pressure on them for the surrender. The group did not surrender till Thursday afternoon. Though, due to relentless pressure, two Maoists, Pintu Rana and Karuna Devi finally agreed for the surrender on Thursday night," said an official of Jamui Police. "He was found involved in raising funds for naxals and was also trying to revive Magadh Zone by encouraging old cadre to join naxal again," the NIA stated. After the arrest of Tarun from Bihar, the team of NIA Ranchi of Jharkhand brought him to the zonal office of NIA in Ranchi for interrogation. Significantly, Maoist leader Pradyuman Sharma, who was arrested last year, is currently in Hazaribagh Jail in Jharkhand. After the arrest of his father, Tarun was working to strengthen the organization in Magadha zone.
