On January 12, a Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) militant was reported abducted and later on shot dead by another rival militant outfit in between Awangkhul and Warngkhung under Noney Police Station (PS) of Noney District in Manipur, reports The Nagaland Post. Police recovered the dead body of the militant identified as Pouluanthai Gangmei along an empty case of the 9mm pistol. ZUF in a press release later on strongly condemning the incident claimed that National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) militants have killed Pouluanthai, reports The Sangai Express on January 16.

Three militants including one Chin National Front (CNF) militant of Myanmar was arrested along with explosives and other war-like stores near Zawngling village in Siaha District of Mizoram on January 20, reports East Mojo. During an operation, a mini truck carrying large quantities of war-like stores including 2,500 kilograms of explosives and 4,500 meters of detonators was intercepted near the Indo-Myanmar border. The trio including two Indian militants were transporting the explosives when they were arrested.

Unidentified assailants on January 20 left a grenade packed inside a box at Axis Bank branch located in Moreh Ward No 6 under Moreh Police Station limits in Tengnoupal District of Manipur, reports E-Pao. According to Police, an unidentified person handed over a tightly packed box to a staff of the bank around 7.30 am and requested it be given to the bank manager. On opening the box, a hand grenade was found inside along with a letter from a proscribed outfit giving last warning. The bank immediately informed the Police and the Police safely recovered the explosive from the premises.

The ammunition including US-made revolvers, magazines and 410 live rounds was wrapped in a yellow-coloured plastic bag and hidden underground in the deep jungle along the Lakma Nallah that flows from India to Bangladesh. On January 31, Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) ‘general secretary’ Sainkupar Nongtraw, in his social media page, claimed responsibility for the improvised explosive device (IED) blast near Delhi Mistan at Police Bazaar in Shillong due to non-payment of taxes by the shopkeepers to the outfit, reports East Mojo. Two persons including one juvenile claiming to be the ‘area commander’ of Shillong Region of HNLC was detained in this connection. One crude IED was also recovered from the residence of a relative the HNLC militant at Nongthymmai area of Shillong. The blast took place in an automobile workshop where a pickup truck carrying detonators was under repair. Lalhmangaihzuala, the owner of the workshop, Lalmawikima, his helper and Lalthafamkima, the owner of the pickup truck was killed in blast. Though initially the explosion was believed to be a cylinder blast, however, on-site investigations led to recovery of 900 pieces of detonators and another electronic detonator behind the driver’s seat. According to investigations, the remnants of the detonator PENT (pentaerythritol tetranitrate) found in the blast is suspected to have Myanmar linkages. Several detonators not yet exploded in commercial quantity along with some Burma currency, a small quantity of Myanmar currency was recovered from the site.

On June 6, a National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM) militant was arrested for involvement in a series of IED blasts, including the June 5 IED attack at Little Flower School from Kangla Sangomshang area in Imphal East District of Manipur, reports Imphal Free Press. The arrested militant identified as Thounaojam Rishi Luwangcha was apprehended along with a jar marked as ‘Mahaan Instant Dairy Creamer’ during a cordon and search operation. One detonator fitted on a Cordtex wire of approximately 1 feet in length, 58 Plastic Explosive Kirkee (PEK) sticks weighing around 7.358 kg, 3 coils of Cordtex wire with approximately 51 feet in length, 397 detonators in boxes and 2 batteries were found inside the jar. Upon further search of his house, some mechanical tools used in assembling the explosive substances including one soldering iron rod; one bolt cutter (wire plier); one ratchet wire stripper; one cutter blade; 18 small iron rods and one electric insulating tape were recovered. One Huyndai i20 car black in colour bearing registration number MN05A-5899 and some particular clothes used in commission of the recent bomb blast were also recovered. The NRFM militant during interrogation revealed that he had started working for the militant outfit in September 2021 under the command of a self-styled ‘chairman’ Dhaballo who is presently staying in Bangladesh. Rishi further disclosed that he was behind the series of bomb blasts in Imphal - one shop at Nagamapal on May 5; at one house located at Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai on May 6 and the recent blast at Little flower school gate on June 5. The explosive substances were handed over to him by his commander through one unknown person in the month of January, 2022 and was paid INR 30,000 for each bomb blast.

The seized items include one shotgun, 2,483 rounds ammunition, 169 Gelatin sticks, and 0.177 mm pellets. Manipur CM Biren Singh appreciated the surrendered militants for returning to mainstream. The 31 surrendered militants included 17 from Kangleipak Communist Party-People's war Group (KCP-PWG), four from United National Liberation Front (UNLF), six from People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), three from Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) and one from People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak - Vice-Chairman (PREPAK-VC). The militants gave up at least 350 firearms, including 18 AK series rifles, M16 rifles and over 400 cartridges. Additional Director General of Police (Special Branch), Hiren Chandra Nath said that the process of peacemaking has been going on since 2017, however, it was prioritized under the leadership of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. On December 20, Security Forces (SFs) arrested four United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) terrorists in Khatangpani area under Pengeri Police Station in Tinsukia District for allegedly providing food and shelter to the cadres of ULFA-I, reports Northeast Today. The arrestees were identified as Amit Mukhiya, Soma Mundri, Raju Gudiya and Lakhan Dang. On December 21, SFs took one of them, Amit Mukhiya, inside Upper Dehing Reserve Forest to show the SFs the exact location, where a group of ULFA-I militants had taken shelter. As they reached the spot, the militants started firing. On retaliation, the SFs returned the fire. Amit Mukhiya was injured in the encounter. However, the militants managed to escape. During a search operation, several detonators, two grenades, several metres of wire and other items were recovered by the SFs.
