TL Jacob Thadou, ‘secretary’ of United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) on the occasion of the 16th raising day celebration of UKLF held at its designated Nazareth Camp of Muvanphoi in Chandel District on March 29, accused New Delhi of not doing anything for the success of the much feted trilateral Suspension of Operation (SoO) signed between the Government of Manipur, Union Government and the two umbrella groups of Kuki militants, Kuki National Organization (KNO) and United Peoples’ Front (UPF). He appealed to the Government to initiate a joint meeting with the two umbrella groups who are under the SoO while maintaining that the Union Government has so far met the two outfits only separately in New Delhi on August 22, 2010, for the extension of the SoO. He expressed his desire for the two groups to sit across the table in the process of sorting out possible political solution.

Delegates of the United Naga Council (UNC) are in Delhi to call on the Union Home Minister to pursue their agenda of an alternative arrangement for the Nagas of Manipur. Speaking to The Sangai Express, UNC president L. Adani stated that the pressure for an “alternative arrangement” is not a movement to demand for a separate State or a Union territory, it is a demand for an arrangement within the Indian Constitution”. Maintaining that it is a broader concept for a solution to the Naga problem, UNC general secretary Gaidon Kamei added, “it is a pending solution vis-a-vis the ongoing Indo- Naga peace talks.”

The United Naga Council (UNC) submitted a memorandum in demand for alternative arrangement outside the State Government of Manipur to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his visit to the State on December 3. The memorandum stated that “We are much concern that even after fourteen long years of cease-fire and negotiation, an acceptable settlement to the Indo-Naga issue has not been brought about nor any concrete steps been taken towards it. We urge the government of India to take expeditious concrete steps towards settlement of the Indo-Naga issue”. The council had also submitted a similar memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Union home minister on September 14 at New Delhi.
