Assam Tribune reports that Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex body of the Kuki community in Manipur, along with its frontal organisations such as Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Kuki Chief Association, Kuki Women Union (KWU) and Kuki Organisation for Human Rights, organised a protest rally on July 4 demanding settlement of Kuki people before any agreement with other groups such as Isak-Muivah faction of National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM). It has been alleged that NSCN-IM murdered 905 Kukis and uprooted 360 Kuki villages during the 1990s.The Telegraph reports that a citizens’ group, is gearing up to resume its agitation ahead of the State Assembly session for the implementation of Inner-Line Permit (ILP). According to the 2011 census, there are INR 704000 migrants out of Manipur’s population of 22,93,896.

The Sangai Express reports that the agitation being spearheaded by the Students Wing of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit (ILP) intensified with more than 30 students suffering injuries in different clashes between students and Police at different areas at Imphal on July 24. It is said that more than 50 students have also been detained. In their bid to storm the State Legislative Assembly, which is currently holding budget session, a large number of DM College students tried to move out of their college campus in the form of protest rallies through both western and eastern gates simultaneously, but the attempt was foiled by the Police.

Five security personnel including one lady Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) trooper and four commandos were reported to be missing, and by the evening of August 30 the missing Security Personnel were freed. Two AK47 rifles, six magazines, two 9 mm pistols, four magazines, one bullet-proof jacket and a walkie-talkie set have been reportedly confiscated from Security Forces (SFs) by the protesters. In view of the highly volatile situation, the District Administration has requisitioned Army and Assam Rifles (AR) and they have been keeping a tight vigil at Ukhrul town. Assam Tribune further adds that the protesters were demanding a settlement of the Indo-Naga issue and removal of prohibitory orders from Ukhrul town.
