Kuki activists have announced an economic blockade for five days with effect from February 18, in protest against the alleged failure of the Manipur State Government to disclose the report of the magisterial inquiry into the encounter on January 28 at Kadangband in Imphal West, reports The Hindu. On January 28, two Kuki National Front (KNF) militants were killed and three were wounded in a firing between AR and the militants. A hand gun was also recovered. However there has been protest as the activists said that it was not an encounter.

JAC has given a 10-days ultimatum to Hill Area Committee of Manipur Assembly to withdraw the Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015, Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment) Bill, 2015 and Manipur Shops and Establishments (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015 which were passed on August 31. The sources said if the Hill Area Committee failed to withdraw the bills, all its members would face public boycott. KPLF/A has been imposing economic blockade on the national highways in Manipur with effect from the midnight of October 21 till October 31. At the same time, UNC has imposed 48-hour total bandh in all hill Districts of Manipur with effect from October 22 midnight. The strikes have been called as a part of the ongoing protest against the passing of three bills- The Protection of Manipur People Bill-2015, The Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment) Bill-2015 and The Manipur Shops and Establishments (Second Amendment) Bil-2015 by Manipur Assembly on August 31 last by various tribal based civil and student organizations. Around 20 Imphal-bound loaded trucks were stranded at Mao gate and beyond it on Nagaland side and only around 10 Imphal-bound loaded trucks stranded at Jiribam, reports said. Supporters of UNC sponsored bandh took to the streets on the highways at various places to enforce the bandh. On NH-37, bandh supporters reportedly blocked vehicular movement at Nungba and Oinamlong area of Tamenglong District. Bandh supporters also blocked Imphal-Ukhrul road at Litan of the District and Imphal-Moreh section of NH-102 at Liwa Chaning and Lamkang Khunou area. Almost all shops and business establishment at Senapati District head quarters closed down their shutters for the day. Government offices witnessed a thin attendance. However, not cover by bandh, schools and colleges functioned as usual.

JCILPS stated in a press release that Manipur Chief Minister (CM) Okram Ibobi Singh gave an assurance to look into the matter very soon during a meeting between a delegation team of JCILPS led by convener in-charge Kh Ratan and CM at 4.30 pm on December 9. It further stated that, the decision to delay of agitation was taken after the assurance of CM and considering the coming Christmas festival of tribal communities as well the ongoing annual examinations.
