The first one was recovered from the residence of Moirangthgem Inakhunbi, an active worker for the INC candidate Y. Surchandra contesting for Kakching constituency in Thoubal District. The second one was recovered from the residence of Takhellambam Koshi, a Congress worker from Ngaikhong Khullen bazaar in Bishnupur District. The third grenade was found at the residence of Chingkham Tomba who is also said to be an INC worker in Bishnupur District. The fourth one was found in the courtyard of Moirangthem Borajaoba from Lamlai Makha Leikai, who is also said to be a congress worker in Imphal East District. A hand written note with a caution not to get involved in the forthcoming election was found near the grenade.

The Telegraph reports that Police commandos killed two suspected militants in an encounter at Urang Chiru, a Chiru village under Irilbung Police station in Imphal East District on January 18 as Security Forces stepped up vigil ahead of the January 28 Assembly elections. Seven Chinese made grenades, three RDX pieces weighing 3.5 kg, three remote circuit boards, six detonators, three electric detonators, three batteries, one .32 pistol and a van were recovered in the operation, adds Kanglaonline. The two slain militants have not been identified yet. All bombs recovered in the operation were diffused by Manipur Police bomb squad later.

Gurumayum Khugamani Sharma alias Inao alias Nanao alias Bimol was arrested from Southern side of Palace Gate traffic point in Imphal East District. He confessed that working as an OWG of PLA since 2009. Police further revealed that the device was handed over to him by one Robertson of the PLA on January 14 for planting at various places to disrupt the Republic Day 2012 celebration as well as the conduct of 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly on January 28. While the ‘home secretary’ was arrested from Thenga Loubuk at Khurai Chingangbam Leikai, his wife identified as Memton alias Ing, was arrested later from an unspecified location. Two Chinese hand grenades, one .32 pistol, two magazines, two live rounds, 80 extortion notes of URF and a personal computer set were recovered from Memton. Acting on the disclosure of the couple, four other cadres of URF were also arrested. According to the release, the arrested persons were identified as Hegou Chongloi, Muhammad Hakim Khan alias Ibungo and Mangminlal Chongloi alias Alex. 77 Extortion Notes, 100 receipt Memos, Registration certificate of Maruti Car and one Maruti Car were recovered from Hegou Chongloi. One mobile phone was recovered from Hakim Khan. One .32 Pistol marked as made in USA along with two live rounds in the magazine and one mobile phone were recovered from Mangminlal Chongloi. In one incident, a militant suspect was killed in an alleged encounter with a team of Police commandos in the night of September 15 at Kharasom village under Lamlai Police station of Imphal East District. A .9 mm pistol loaded with three live rounds, one Chinese made hand grenade, a mobile handset and an Activa Honda brand scooter were recovered from him, police said, adding that the dead body is awaited for official identification. According to a Police release, a combined team of CDO Imphal East, CDO Imphal West, 30 Assam Rifles and 18th Sikh Regiment under the command of Inspector P Achouba Meetei, OC, CDO/IE launched a counter insurgency operation at in and around Khurai Chairen Thongkhong areas on December 21 at about 6:30 pm, after receiving a reliable information regarding the presence of some cadres UG organization PREPAK. During the operation the combined team have arrested four PREPAK cadres who were allegedly involved in several bomb blasts. The four have been identified as Haorongbam Shangkar Singh (22), son of H Sharat Singh of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai, Haobam Manglemba Meitei alias Jotin (23), son of H Bashanta Singh of Sagolband Meino Leirak, Sorokhaibam (O) Milem (N) Jamini Devi (47), wife of Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh of Lamsang Bazaar Thong Maning, Kshetrimayum Boby Singh alias Thouba (32), son of Ksh Ibocha Singh of Sagolband Meino Leirak, said the release. “Two numbers of Chinese Hand Grenade with detonators, one PEK explosive (with a dimension of 26 cm X 5 cm) and 4 (four) numbers of detonators along with wire and two numbers of mobile phones were recovered from them,” the release said.
