The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) arrested Rezaul Haque aka Reza aka Tanvir Mahmud aka Shihab aka Ahnaf (37), the Acting Amir of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), from the Badda area of capital city, Dhaka on April 10, reports Dhaka Tribune. DMP, Joint Commissioner of Police, M Elias Sharif, said, the Special Action Group Division of the CTTC unit conducted a special drive in the Badda area and arrested Rezaul, who is also the chief of the Da'wah and Baitulmal department of the militant outfit JMB. Rezaul, arrested for his involvement in a series of bomb attacks in the country in 2005, was conducting militant activities across the country as per the directives of top JMB leader Salahuddin Salehin. In 2017, he secured bail and became involved in the activities of JMB again. According to the CTTC, Rezaul who is in charge of the current organizational structure of the JMB, is the only Shura member of the JMB.

On April 14, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan placed three Hefajat-e-Islam (HeI) activists, assistant organising secretary Mufti Shakhawat Hossain Razi, assistant secretary general Maulana Monzurul Islam Afendi and activist Mufti Fakhrul Islam, after five-day remand in connection with the mayhem in Dhaka in May 2013, reports Daily Star. The three accused were arrested from different areas of the capital on April 14. On May 5, 2013, thousands of members of HeI, a Qawmi madrasa-based Islamist organisation, clashed with law enforcers and ruling Awami League men, turning Motijheel and Paltan areas into a battlefield.

Saiful Islam, Deputy Commissioner of CTTC, said Sakib, after graduating from a private university, started working as a freelancer. He used to help finance the militant group through cryptocurrency. Another arrestee used to communicate with others through a secret messaging app for new recruitment.
