Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim at a meeting of Awami League (AL)-led 14-party alliance held in Dhaka city on January 15 said that the AL-led 14-party alliance will not hold talks with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-led 20-party alliance and announced that the country’s local administrations would help the 14-party alliance to form “Anti-Subversive Acts Committees” in every District, reports Dhaka Tribune. Nasim said “The BNP- Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) alliance is continuing to kill people in attacks using petrol bombs and setting fire to transportation vehicles all over the country in accordance with BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s instructions. The AL-led 14-party alliance will not hold any dialogue with those who kill innocent people, especially women and children in the name of their movement”. Nasim further said “AL-led 14-party alliance ‘Anti-Subversive Acts Committees’ will be set up in every ward and locality in the country to detain and hand over anybody involved in acts of violence or sabotage to law enforcement agencies.”

Self-proclaimed “real Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader” Kamrul Hasan Nasim at a press conference at Westin Hotel in Dhaka city on January 16 issued an ultimatum for Begum Khaleda Zia to step down as BNP chairperson and dissolve all committees by February 2, reports Dhaka Tribune. Issuing a note of warning, Nasim, spokesperson of Sahed Obayed’s Gorbo Bangladesh said “We will lay a siege to Khaleda Zia’s residence with 1700 leaders to force her to resign and an initiative will be taken to revamp Zia’s BNP.” Alleging that the present leadership of BNP is pushing the party into resorting to destructive and militant activities, he said “I am the only spokesperson of the BNP. Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) President Hossain Khaled, sharing the survey results at a press conference at its office on January 22 said that in the last 16 days' political unrest the economy lost at least Bangladesh Taka (BTK) 36,445 crore, reports The Daily Star. The daily loss is BTK 300 crore in transport sector, 288 crore in agriculture, 250 crore in real estate and 210 crore in tourism. The wholesale and retail markets suffer losses of 150 crore while the manufacturing sector 100 crore. The figure is equivalent to 2.69 percent of the GDP.

The PM said military dictators grabbed power after the assassination of Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and dropped the word “secularism” from the Constitution although it was one of the principles of the charter. “But our government has restored it through the 15th amendment to the Constitution.” She noted that the country's apex court declared illegal the capture of power by military rulers.
