On September 12, the United States (US) Department of State’s Special Representative and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Afghanistan, Thomas West, said that Taliban have significantly degraded the capability of Islamic State-Khorasan Province (IS-KP), reports Tolo News. He further said, "The group that we worry most about is the Islamic State branch in Afghanistan, ISKP. I think it's notable that since early 2023, Taliban raids in Afghanistan have removed at least eight key IS-KP leaders, some of whom were responsible for external plotting. They have a very aggressive, violent, and offensive drive ongoing that has significantly degraded the capability of Islamic State-Khorasan Province (IS-KP). I don’t want to overstate the case; as I said, we worry about this group that clearly harbours and intends to conduct external operations, but the Taliban offensive has been successful and significantly degraded their capabilities." In addition, he said that Taliban’s fight against IS-KP is important but noted that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is posing the greatest threat to regional stability, and we see a significant increase in TTP’s attacks directed at Pakistan.
