Nagaland Post reports that two militants, identified as K. Halem Raja Peyu and Temo Khiam, belonging to Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) and National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM), respectively, joined NSCN-K on June 1. NSCN-K, in a press release stated that the two ‘functionaries’ felt that the Naga sovereignty issue could only be brought about by NSCN under the “able and unquestionable leadership S.S.Khaplang”. The two functionaries further pledged to work for the Naga national cause till Nagas achieve full sovereignty under the leadership of S.S.Khaplang, added the release.

Zee News reports that one Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) militant, identified as Pangto Atoa, was arrested by Security Forces from Khonsa town in Tirap District on June 4. The SFs seized cash and a mobile handset from his possession, the Police said. On receiving inputs from intelligence that the militant have come to the town to extort money from a businessman, a joint team led by Assam Rifles and State Police arrested the cadre from Longding road tri-junction at Khonsa market, official sources said. Atoa was involved in many cases of extortion besides firing incidents at Chasa on January 8, 2012, and at Borduria on March 7, 2012.

Nagaland Post reports that two Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) militants were arrested from Wokha while they were “extorting money” from passenger buses proceeding towards Longleng District on June 5. According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Wokha Kenesa, the accused have been identified as Pinymthung Shitiri (18) of NSCN-Khaplang (NSCN-K) and Thungjamo Kikon (19) of NSCN-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM). Police said one 7.65 country made pistol with three live rounds, two mobile phones, collection slip/note and some cash were seized from the accused.

A Press Information Bureau-Defence Wing (PIB-DW) statement while officially confirmed that the slain cadres belonged to the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K), added that after the gun fight, a search of the area was conducted and that a huge quantity of arms and ammunition were also recovered. The recoveries included four AK 47 rifles, one M-16 Rifle and one A3 Rifle, seven magazines of AK 47, two magazines of M-16, 47 live rounds of AK 47 and 38 live rounds of M-16. The search operation is still under progress, it added. Nagaland Post quoted an NSCN-K senior functionary saying that there was no report of such encounter so far. The Times of India, however, reports that the slain militants belonged to Kuki group.

Separately, on June 24, several civil organizations and family members of the six Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) cadres who were reportedly killed during an alleged encounter with a combined troop of 10th Assam Rifles, Paratroopers and Loktak Brigade during the wee hours on June 23, have strongly denied the shootout claim of the Press Infiormation Bureau-Defence Wing (PIB-DW) statement. Five of the six NSCN-K cadres have meanwhile been identified by family members while the one cadre is yet to be identified. The five have been identified as Chuijanglung Dangmei, Th Leikampao, Ngoubuibo, and Mazadai Panmei and Moningam Anal. According to a Press Information Bureau-Defence Wing (PIB-DW) release, K Rajanglung had joined NSCN-K on February 16, 1997, and went through rigorous ‘military’ training for three months in eastern area of Myanmar near Mon District in Nagaland. One 9mm carbine with magazine, one .22 Pistol with magazine, one AK 47 rifle with magazine, one bolt action rifle, one 12 bore (bolt action) SBBL and 41 rounds of assorted ammunition along with PEK explosives and detonators were recovered from two houses in St. John sector A of Tuensang town following their arrests. Unidentified gunmen picked a formed cadre of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K), identified as ‘deputy secretary (finance)’ Zhehuto, from his residence in Purana Bazar in Dimapur District on June 27 and subsequently shot him dead, reports Nagaland Post. Police recovered the body from a teak plantation site in Thilixu village in the same District. Police also recovered one empty case of 7.65 mm pistol from the spot. Also, according to an intelligence source, a `treasury officer` of the Khole-Kitovi faction of NSCN (NSCN-KK) identified as one Vihoto along with his body guards were repairing a vehicle in a motor-workshop at 4Th Mile area in Dimapur, when NSCN-K cadres came and started firing at them, reports Kanglaonline.
