Police has identified the slain militant killed in an encounter at Turkwangam area under Batpora Taluk (administrative division) in Shopian District on April 1, as Muneeb Ahmad Sheikh son of Shah Mohd Sheikh, resident of Tak Mohalla Shopian, reports Daily Excelsior. Muneeb Ahmad was affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). As per Police records, Muneeb Ahmad was a categorized militant and part of groups involved in several cases including attacks on Police, Security Forces (SFs) and civilians. South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP) had reported the incident on April 1.

Police busted two militant modules of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and arrested five associates of LeT in Bandipora District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on April 3, reports Daily Excelsior. A Police spokesman said that militant associates identified as Irfan Ahmad Bhat of Ashtango, Sajad Ahmad Mir, Shariq Ahmad Mir, both from Arin and Irfan Ahmad Jan of Qazipora Bandipora were arrested by the Security Forces. Police said that they were providing SIM cards and other logistic support to militants operating in the area. Two Chinese grenades were recovered from their possession.

Two militants, one each of Ansaar Gazwat-ul-Hind (AuGH) and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed in an encounter at Tral area of Awantipora in Pulwama District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on April 6, reports Daily Excelsior. A Police official said that based on a specific input generated by Ganderbal Police regarding presence of militants in Tral area of Awantipora, a raid was conducted by Awantipora Police in the area. “During the raid, as the search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately at the search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter,” the official said. He said that one militant was killed in the first firefight. The killed militants have been identified as Umar Nabi Teli alias Talha son of Ghulam Nabi Teli, resident of Ladoo Khrew and Shafat Muzaffar Sofi alias Muavia son of Muzaffar Ahmad Sofi, resident of Batagund Tral.

Security Forces on April 7 arrested a terrorist associate of the terror outfit of Lashkar-e -Toiba (LeT) at Dolipora Kreeri area of Baramulla District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), reports Daily Excelsior. “On Thursday, joint forces of Baramulla Police, Army 29 RR and 2nd BN SSB received specific information through reliable sources regarding the movement of militants in the general area of Dolipora Kreeri. Reacting to the information joint parties of Baramulla Police, Army 29 RR and 2nd Bn SSB established an MVCP at Dolipora Morh,” an official statement read. During the search operation, arms and ammunition were recovered from his possession including one AK magazine, 20 live rounds of AK, 2 UBGL grenades, and 2 detonators, according to the statement. The preliminary investigation revealed that he is a close associate of an active terrorist Hilal Sheikh, affiliated with the LeT and he is also in contact with a Pakistani terrorist Usman.

On April 8, in a notification, Union Ministry of Home Affairs (UMHA) stated that Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed's son Hafiz Talha is declared as a designated terrorist under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, reports The Times Now. According to UMHA, Hafiz Talha Saeed, a senior leader of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfit and head of the cleric wing of LeT, is ‘actively involved in recruitment, fund collection, planning and executing attacks by LeT in India and Indian interests in Afghanistan’. This came on the day when Talha’s father and JuD chief Hafiz Saeed was sentenced to 31 years in jail by a Pakistan Anti-Terrorism Court.

The arrested associates were identified as Wajid Yousuf Akhoon, son of Mohammad Yousuf Akhoon of Rathsun Beerwah and Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh, son of Wali Mohammad Sheikh of Kawoosa Khalisa. “Incriminating materials of outfit LeT, arms and ammunition including one Chinese pistol, two pistol magazines, 12 pistol rounds have been recovered from their possession,” Police said.

In its first operation outside Jammu and Kashmir, the newly constituted State Investigation Agency (SIA) conducted raids in the National Capital Region (NCR) Delhi on April 10 in connection with a terror funding case, reports Daily Excelsior. SIA teams carried out the searches at three places in Delhi, one in Faridabad in Haryana and two in Anantnag of south Kashmir, the SIA officials said. The teams were assisted by the Delhi Police and other security agencies. Those raided included some lawyers who allegedly received funds from a Pakistan-based conduit of the LeT terror group to sustain terrorist and secessionist networks in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country. During the searches, incriminating materials such as digital devices, SIM cards, mobile phones and documents have been recovered and seized.

Two foreign militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed in an encounter with Security Forces at Bishembar Nagar area of Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on April 10, reports Daily Excelsior. They were involved in the recent attack on the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Maisuma area of Srinagar. Speaking to reporters, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar described the killings as a major success for the SFs in Srinagar. He said that Police while acting on a lead sealed the suspected house in Bishembar Nagar area of Srinagar early this morning. “After closing in on the house where two militants were hiding, they lobbed a grenade and fired at the security forces in which two policemen and a CRPF personnel were injured,” the IGP said. He said that in the ensuing encounter, two hardcore LeT militants were killed. Both the killed militants were Pakistani and identified as Mohammad Bhai alias Abu Qasim, alias Mir Shoaib alias Mudassir and Abu Arsalan alias Khalid alias Aadil. As per police records, both of them were ‘A’ categorized and linked with LeT. Mohammad Bhai was active since 2019 while as Abu Arsalan was active since year 2021 in Central Kashmir. They were involved in pistol-borne attacks and grenade throwing incidents at various places. They were also involved in an attack on CRPF personnel in Maisuma in which one CRPF was killed and another injured.

In a gazette notification, UMHA stated that Ammar Alvi, a senior leader of JeM, ‘has been involved in Pulwama Central Reserve Police Force Convoy attack of 2019 and in anti-India terror activities on behalf of JeM. Alvi who looks after JeM’s fund collection by Pakistani nationals and routing the said fund to Kashmir in India has been involved in facilitating infiltration of Afghan cadres and coordinating terror attacks on Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. A Police official said that based on a specific information regarding movement of three suspected individuals from Wadoora Bala to Sonarwain bridge, who were likely to carryout attack on SFs, a joint Naka was established at Sonarwain bridge near Wadoora Bala village. He said that during the checking at the naka, it was observed that three persons were moving towards naka in suspicious conditions. The naka party challenged them, however, they tried to flee from the spot, taking cover of darkness but, were nabbed by the SFs. “Upon their search, three pistols, three magazines, 22 rounds of pistols, one grenade and Rs 79,800 cash were recovered from their possession”, he added. The arrested militants were identified as Tufail Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Majeed Mir of Gund Mohalla, Barat Kalan; Owais Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Hassan Mir of Mir Mohalla, Barat Kalan and Shabir Ahmad Wagay son of Nazir Ahmad Wagay of Masjid Mohalla, Pethbug. Four Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were killed in an encounter with Security Forces at Badigam in the Zainapora area of Shopian District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on April 14, reports Daily Excelsior. On receiving information about the presence of terrorists at Badigam, SFs launched a cordon-and-search operation, a Police official said. During the search operation, the terrorists fired upon the forces which led to an encounter, he said. In the exchange of fire, four militants were killed, the official added. The slain militants were identified as Aaqib Farooq Thoker and Waseem Ahmed Thoker — both residents of Heffkhuri in Zainapora — and Farooq Ahmad Bhat and Shoqeen Ahmad Mir of Sugan.

Lashkar-e-Taiba’s (LeT) cadre Sheikh Sajad alias Sajjad Gul, who took part in the conspiracy to kill journalist Shujaat Bukhari in Srinagar in 2018, was designated as a terrorist by the Union Home Ministry on April 19, reports Daily Excelsior. Gul is the sixth individual to have been designated as a terrorist by the Home Ministry during the last fortnight. The Union Home Ministry said Gul is absconding in a case pertaining to recovery of arms and ammunition in Jammu and Kashmir and has been actively radicalising, motivating and recruiting youngsters in the Union Territory to support the LeT. He has also been involved in terror funding, the Ministry said. Gul was found involved in hatching a criminal conspiracy, in connivance with other members of the LeT, to eliminate Bukhari, a prominent journalist, along with two of his personal security officers, at the busy Press Enclave area of Srinagar on June 14, 2018, the Ministry said in a notification.

Four terrorists, including a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) ‘commander’, were neutralised so far in the ongoing encounter that broke out in Malwah area of Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on April 21, reports Daily Excelsior. Earlier on April 21 morning it was reported that LeT ‘Commander’ Yousuf Kantroo was killed while others militants were under trap. Yousuf Kantroo was on the list of top 10 most wanted terrorists. Acting on a specific input, a special team of Budgam Police along with the Army launched a joint cordon and search operation in Malwah area. During the search operation as the joint search party reached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon them in which four soldiers including one officer received minor injuries. The fire was effectively retaliated leading to an encounter. Later on, Baramulla Police headed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla District also joined in the operation. One Policeman from the Baramulla District also got injured in the encounter. According to J&K Police, terrorist Yousuf Kantroo earlier joined as an over ground worker of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) outfit and was arrested in the year 2005. Later on, he was released in the year 2008 but he again joined terrorist rank in the year 2017 and started killing innocent civilians, Policemen and political workers. Later on he switched from HM to LeT. However, the identification of the other killed terrorist is yet to be ascertain.
