The Taliban dismissed and detained the religious scholar and preacher of the central Arz-Begi mosque, identified as Mawlawi Abdul Shakur Hanif, in Kunduz Province, reports Hasht-e Subh Daily on February 4. This dismissal and detention followed the circulation of a critical video on social media in which he accused the Taliban of engaging in nationalism, oppression, and levying illegal taxes on the impoverished citizens of the country. Furthermore, he said that the Taliban have been arbitrarily arresting and torturing ordinary citizens under the pretext of alleged ties to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and the National Resistance Front (NRF).
