Commander of the Afghan National Army (ANA) in Dasht-e-Archi District Hamid Saifi said on April 2 “Red Division militants being trained and funded by some foreign groups and this is questionable. Some offensives that they have carried out have been above the Taliban’s (usual) capacity in terms of tactics, movements and functioning”, reports Tolo News. These militants carry out night attacks on Security Forces. Red Division is based along the bordering area between Afghanistan and Tajikistan. “Due to Taliban's ties to Russians, they want to have control over Dasht-e-Archi and keep a safe and continued relationship with Russia across the Amu River,” Hamid Saifi said. “They mostly belong to terrorist groups and the fighters belong to Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, Tajik nationals, Quetta Council and Intelligence Agencies,” Abdul Hamid Hamidi, the Kunduz Police Chief added.

MoD added that 18 militant commanders including a member of the ‘Quetta Council; of the Taliban Mulah Baryal were killed in the air-strike. Ministry of Defence (MoD) Afghanistan Spokesman General Mohammad Radminish while releasing visual evidence of Taliban presence said that the Afghan Air Force (AAF) strike that targeted a Taliban training centre in Dasht-i-Arch District of Kunduz Province killed 18 militants, including Taliban’s Quetta Shura member Mualvi Baryal and 11 others injured in the air-strike, reports Pajhwok Afghan News on April 4. Lawmaker Abdullah Quarleq however said that 25 Taliban militants and 60 civilians had been killed while over 50 civilians were injured in the air-strike. In regards to the civilian casualties, Radmanish said the Afghan Army helicopters attacked the compound with rockets but the civilians sustained casualties from small fire arms, adds Khaama Press. Earlier SATP had reported on April 3 that 15 Taliban militants had been killed.
