Religious parties during a rally held in a ground near the Quaid Mausoleum in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh on February 12, vowed to hold a sit-in outside Parliament on February 20, 2012 in protest against restoration of NATO supplies and warned to turn every square of the country into Tahrir Square if attempts were made to push the country to United States (US) subservience, reports Dawn. From the platform of Difa-e-Pakistan Council (DPC), the parties assailed US policies and their leaders and slogan-chanting supporters condemned the continuing drone attacks and “attempts to restore NATO supplies”. The rally was dominated by Jama’at-ud-Dawa (JuD), Jama’at-e-Islami (JeI) and Ahl-e-Sunnat wal Jama’at (ASWJ). Several speakers paid tribute to Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Omar. Hafiz Mohammad Saeed of JuD said the US wanted to avenge its defeat in Afghanistan and was exploiting the situation in Balochistan. He said India was using Kashmir against Pakistan as a tool and had blocked the flow of water to Pakistan, but the DPC would not allow this to happen. He said the people of Pakistan would stand by their armed forces and foil any conspiracy against the country. The conference adopted a 10-point agenda for steering the country out of the crisis and to restore Islamic values.

Sources privy to investigations revealed to The Express Tribune on February 12 that the planners of 26/11 Mumbai attacks watched the terror unfold live at a rented house in the North Nazimabad neighbourhood of Karachi. The planners not only watched the terror unfold via cameras carried by the attackers, they provided them live instructions to engage Indian security personnel and inflict maximum damage, sources added. Pakistani and Indian investigation agencies have found as many as 35 people to be involved in the siege in Mumbai while Indian authorities have been able to trace the exact location of the ‘base camp’ of the attack in Karachi, sources added, while discussing a Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) report on the attacks. According to the report, available with The Express Tribune, these terror suspects provided logistic and financial support to the gunmen who carried out the attack. The extensive report includes names of the captain and crew of boats that carried the attackers to Mumbai, financers of the operation, the facilitators in Karachi and those who provided logistical support and technology. The attackers were purportedly trained at sea near Thatta and had even made preparatory trips to Mumbai, unnoticed by the Indian navy, sources added. The investigations, however, refute claims made by Pakistani-American terrorist David Coleman Headley, one of the leading planners of the Mumbai attacks. Headley had testified earlier that Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) had coordinated with each other for the attack. The ISI provided military and moral support to the group, he had alleged.

leaders of Kachchi Rabita Committee (KRC) demanded construction of Police check posts in Lyari area on permanent basis to stop influx of gangsters and restore Government writ in the area, reported Daily Times. A leader of KRC Hussain Kachchi, along with Akhtar Kachchi and other KRC leaders demanded this while addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club. He said, “PAC, which is a group of gangsters, though banned by the Federal Government, is still carrying out its criminal activities in Lyari and Police and the LEAs seem to be helpless”. He alleged that the PAC, which is headed by Uzair Baloch and Zafar Baloch, was using the name of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) to give cover to their illegal activities, including kidnapping for ransom, looting, thefts, and collecting extortion money. “They have made the lives of residents of Lyari miserable”, said Hussain, adding that since April 2009 over 70 people of KRC had been killed in Lyari, while the target killings had claimed lives of 600 people of Lyari.
