Lawmaker Dimpal Kumari Jha, speaking in the outset of the meeting from the UDMF side, urged the Government to form a probe committee to investigate into Saptari and Kanchanpur incidents. She blamed police brutality for human casualties in the Saptari incident. She objected as the constitution amendment work schedule was also not introduced in the meeting as well. Lawmaker Jha added that the election process was forwarded instead of constitution amendment process, adding that it was to displease the UDMF by spreading salt in wound. Soon after Jha’s remarks UDMF lawmakers boycotted the House meeting and walked out.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) on the basis of threat assessment reports received from local administrations across the country has said that even as nearly all polling stations in the Tarai plains remain susceptible to election-related violence and possible disruptions, the biggest challenge for poll security may come from the eight districts of Province 2, reports Republica on March 23. “The situation is really fluid in the region as the Madhesi parties are campaigning against the polls. We also face additional threats from radical groups like that of CK Raut and Jaya Krishna Goit. Having said this, we are taking all possible measures to conduct the polls in a free, fair and peaceful environment,” said Chief District Officer of Saptari, Krishna Bahadur Katuwal.

Separately, Sadbhawana Party (SP) Chairman Rajendra Mahato speaking at a press conference in Sarlahi District headquarters Malangawa on March 25 ruled out possibility of elections without amending the constitution, reports The Himalayan Times. He said “At a time when the entire Madhes is demanding that the faulty provisions of the constitution be set aright, any attempt to ride roughshod over the feeling of the Madhesi people and hold election would be fatal. We supported the government hoping that it, unlike the previous government led by UML, would address our genuine concerns but no avail.
