Reports from Nepal, quoting the Home Ministry, on January 2, said one Maoist insurgent was killed in clashes with police in a village in Baitadi district on January 1. In a separate incident, a Maoist insurgent was killed in clashes with troops in Bhajang district. Subsequently, three guns, bombs and explosives were recovered from the encounter site. Also, security forces recovered three more guns in Solokhumbu, the scene of the November 25-clashes––the biggest since the insurgency was launched six years ago. The Defence Ministry said on January 4 that three Maoist insurgents were killed and an unspecified number injured in Singa VDC, Myagdi district. The Army in Okhaldhunga and Rukum districts shot two more insurgents dead, reports said. Read less...

Three more rebels were arrested from Shaligram in Parbat district. A Defence Ministry release on January 19 said that security forces arrested 40 suspects from different parts of the country.
