Two Police constables, identified as Nisar and Pir Rehman, providing security to polio workers were killed on August 16 by firing from unidentified terrorists in Kot Azam area of Tank District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reports Geo News. "Two gunmen hiding near a small water channel opened fire on the policemen from a very close range," senior Police officer Waqar Ahmad Khan said adding that "the gunmen spared the two-member polio vaccination team... and fled on a motorbike."
Separately, Khar tehsil (revenue unit) council chairman and Jamiat Ulema-e Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) senior leader Haji Said Badshah was injured along with his two companions and one police guard in a landmine explosion in the Chinar area of Salarzai tehsil in Bajaur District on August 16, reports Dawn. Police said that the incident occurred when the vehicle of Haji Said Badshah was hit by a landmine planted along the roadside.
