On June 28, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted a series of searches in the remote villages of Mujalgondi, Kalmuchche, Amabeda, and Jiwalamari in Kanker District in the Bastar division of Chhattisgarh in connection with a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) arrest and arms recovery case, reports The Week. "Half a dozen places in the troubled region were extensively searched, and several mobile phones, a printer, and cash amounting to Rs 39,100 were seized along with incriminating documents," a statement issued by the NIA said. The NIA is continuing with its investigation in the case, registered initially by the local Police on February 5 this year and taken over by the NIA on February 22.
The annual meeting of the Unified Command, held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in Raipur District of Chhattisgarh on June 28, laid emphasis on interstate coordination and infrastructure development in the Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-hit areas in the state to combat Naxalism, reports Deccan Chronicle. The meeting convened to take stock of the security situation in LWE-affected areas in Chhattisgarh, particularly Bastar, called for improving coordination with neighbouring states, particularly Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Maharashtra, to deal with the menace of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist). The interstate coordination includes joint operations in border areas, surveillance of connecting routes by Security Forces (SFs), and sharing of information. Chief Minister Sai said that the state government has adopted a twin strategy of intensifying counterinsurgency operations and undertaking development works to tackle Maoist menace in the state.
