Police on January 19 retrieved bullet-riddled dead bodies of two Kuki National Army-India (KNA-I) militants, identified as Paoneh (28) and Letminthang Haokip (20), in Churachandpur District, reports Nagaland Post. The duo was reportedly killed in a gunfight with another Kuki militant group, Kuki Independent Army (KIA). However, a highly reliable report said that two were shot dead at Molnoiphai village under Churachandpur Police Station after they were abducted from other place. Police said that the bodies were recovered when a Police team rushed to the spot based on information that two militants were killed in a gunfight between cadres of KNA-I and KIA.

A teenage girl, identified as Manchi Ch Marak, and an unidentified militant of Achik Songna An’pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) were killed in a gun battle between the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) and Achik Songna An’pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK), at Bolmaram Agalgre in East Garo Hills on February 3, reports The Assam Tribune. One more ASAK cadre is reportedly was injured. The Shillong Times further adds that GNLA has been battling several other militant groups to prevent them from encroaching into territory they claim to ‘dominate’ and there have been instances in the past when it had clashed with other militant groups such as Achik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF) and Breakaway faction of Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC-B).

Several Tangkhul women who were taking out a protest demonstration on February 9 in Kasom in Ukhrul District had a narrow escape when a pressure cooker bomb failed to explode while they were passing by, reports The Sentinel. One person happened to see a pressure cooker bomb, which failed to explode, on the roadside. The women were protesting the bomb blast, which happened on February 5 which killed one person and the gunfight between Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) and Isak-Muivah faction of National Socialist Council of Nagaland NSCN-IM on February a place between Nambashi and Nambashi Khunou in Ukhrul. RPF stated that the NSCN-IM is never considered as an enemy but it would counter any threat to Manipuri's unity through tough political and military strategies, reports E-pao on February 10. According to a statement of RPF issued by its ‘publicity secretary’ Roben Khuman the outfit is always ready to have talks with NSCN-IM, if the later wants. He also stated that killing of one cadre and injuring of few other cadres of NSCN-IM at Nambasi was an unfortunate incident. He said that RPF was preparing to carry out an attack on AR, however SFs stayed back at Nambasi School compound and NSCN-IM militants came towards the hiding position of RPF.

Imphal free press further adds that Sontinpai was a militant of the Kuki Independent Organisation /Kuki Independent Army (KIO/ KIA) from whose dead body, five demand letters to be delivered were recovered. KIO/ KIA ‘information secretary’ Thomas Kom stated that killings will not serve any purpose.

Jharkhand Police spokesperson Anurag Gupta said Police have found the extremist's body and launched a search operation for the injured. "We have inputs that two extremists were injured. According to NSCN-IM, the killed NSCN-IM militant has been identified as 'corporal' Illumei Jack and the killed ZUF militant as DP Akhomlung. It is also said that 800 rounds of AK-47 rifle, one lethod gun and one hand grenade belonging to ZUF were recovered from the site of the clash. Nagaland Post further adds that four militants were injured too. Both groups have been engaged in series of clash since 2011 in the region.

Officials said that as soon as Friday prayers got over at Jamia Masjid in the Nowhatta area, a group of youths waved the flags and raised pro-separatist and pro-Pakistani slogans. The officials said that the youths also set fire to the tricolour before marching towards Nowhatta Chowk on their way towards Khanyar Chowk. However, they were stopped by a large contingent of SF personnel stationed there, triggering the clashes, which continued for some time. There is no report of anybody being hurt in the incident, they added.

Two militants were killed in a reported clash between the United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) led by Robert and UTLA (SK Thadou) in the interior village area of Laikot in Manipur’s Tamenglong District on November 19, reports The Morung Express. Police sources said that the fighting between the rival groups took place at around 9:00bpm in Laikot area which is about 25 kilometers south of Nungba Police Station. Laikot is a Kuki village.
