Three militants were killed and eight persons injured in a clash with Security Forces (SFs) in Malikabad, a mountainous area in Gadoon Amazai, of Swabi District in North West Frontier Provinces (NWFP) on February 2, according to Daily Times. Local residents and officials said that four militants surrendered before SFs after the clash. The sources said SFs launched a search operation in the area after receiving information about the presence of militants there. The militants, the sources said, opened fire on the SFs near a mosque and in the exchange of fire three militants, including a Pesh Imam (prayer leader) of the mosque, were killed. Eight persons, including four SFs personnel, were injured in the clash. The slain militants were identified as Shafi Akbar, Roohul Amin and Khalid. The four surrendered militants were Imran, Said Kamil Shah, Salman Akbar and Salman Shah.

The SFs and the Political Administration, in a joint search operation, arrested 80 suspected Taliban militants in Khar and Salarzai tehsils (revenue units) of Bajaur Agency, while 20 Taliban militants including a key commander surrendered in the Bajaur Agency, officials said. At least three Taliban militants were killed while nine others were arrested by Security Forces (SFs) during the ongoing Operation Rah-e-Rast (Path to Truth) in Swat of North West Frontier Province (NWFP) on January 13, according to Daily Times. An Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement said that two more militants surrendered before the SFs in Maniari area. SFs conducted a search-and-clearance operation in Qambar near Mingora and village Gada Kot and arrested nine suspected militants. During another search-and-clearance operation in Mora Sar and Udigram, SFs recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition.

Official sources said 21 militants laid down arms during a jirga (tribal council) of Mamond tribal elders. The names of the militants or their commanders were not disclosed to the media. They reportedly belonged to Mukha, Gabari, Meena, Kaga, Landai, Bandarai, and Zagai areas of Mamond tehsil (revenue unit). The recovered arms and ammunition includes 85 Russian-made Kalashnikov rifles, 23 rocket launchers, 23 rockets, 40 artillery shells, 12 mortar shells, five remote-controlled bombs, short-range missiles, scores of hand-grenades and explosives. The political administration has set July 31 deadline for the tribesmen to hand over heavy weapons to the Government and register the small ones.

The process to expel families of absconding Taliban (TTP) started in Swat after the deadline given to the on-the-run Taliban expired on May 20. 25 families of the Taliban (TTP) in hiding were expelled from Malakand division. Nipki Khel Qaumi Jirga (community council) had asked the militants to surrender by May 20, which resulted in the surrender of 115 absconding militants. However, the families of the Taliban who did not surrender were asked to leave Malakand division in vehicles provided by the local administration. The expelled families will be housed in camps outside Malakand, a member of the Nipki Khel jirga said. Three families from Ningolai, seven each from Bara Bandai and Koza Bandai, and one each from Deharai, Damghar, Kanju, Hazara, Deolai, Seranai, Kabal Khas and Sogay areas were expelled.
