According to Dawn, US-led coalition forces in Afghanistan killed at least 24 terrorists and destroyed two vehicles in a missile attack in the Lawara Mandi area of North Waziristan on July 14-night. Pakistani security forces also carried out search operations in the same area and arrested seven suspects on July 15. The Director-General of the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Maj. Gen. Shaukat Sultan, confirmed that terrorists’ bodies were found inside Pakistani territory and were taken into custody. "We presumed they were trying to escape into the Pakistani area when they were hit by coalition forces," Sultan told Dawn. "I cannot say about the origin of the deceased," Sultan said when asked whether any Pakistani was among the dead. He also disclosed that coalition troops had informed Pakistani security forces before their operations on this side of the border. Sultan also told a private TV channel that Pakistan would investigate whether troops from the 18,000-strong US-led coalition in Afghanistan had violated Pakistani airspace or land borders. "Coalition forces had informed us about an operation against the anti-coalition militia and our troops were on stand-by also," he said and added: "When the firing was over our troops searched the area and found 24 bodies and two twin-cabin vehicles. There was no firing from our side, our troops were just patrolling and stood alert."

The operation also yielded a huge cache of arms and ammunition, communication equipment and a remote-controlled Drone, he informed a press briefing in Peshawar. The Chinese-made remote-piloted vehicle was used by the terrorists to spy on army movements and positions in the region, disclosed Hussain. He said the small aircraft had a wide-angle camera underneath its belly to take pictures of targets on the ground. He also showed to journalists sophisticated radio equipment used to transmit instructions to ‘fighters’ in Afghanistan in Darri and Arabic. There were also maps and handwritten notes in Russian, for terrorists from Central Asian republics, passports, including one of a Jordanian national, and a suicide jacket with shoulder straps and trigger hooks, according to Dawn. The weapons cache included 17 machineguns, 29 rockets, 51 grenades, eight improvised bombs and 10 landmines.

At least 40 terrorists and five soldiers were reportedly killed in clashes between security forces (SFs) and the former in the Khatey Kali area of North Waziristan on September 29. The clashes erupted after troops laid a siege to houses in the area after receiving information about the presence of foreign terrorists in the area. The troops soon came under fire from the terrorists who attacked an army convoy which was heading towards Datakhel from Miranshah, headquarters of North Waziristan. According to Dawn, helicopter gun-ships fired rockets on suspected terrorist hideouts following the clashes and that a large number of families were seen leaving the area and moving to safe locations. Sources said that the army also used medium-range artillery and fired shells to dismantle pockets of resistance. Maj. Gen Shaukat Sultan, Army spokesperson, told Daily Times that security forces (SFs) had cordoned off the Khatey Kali area after terrorists attacked paramilitary personnel and soldiers. He also said they had arrested former Taliban ‘commander’ Maulvi Jalaluddin Haqqani’s nephew Ahmed on terrorism charges. Meanwhile, a Jirga (tribal council) was negotiating a temporary truce to let both sides retrieve the dead bodies. Gen Shaukat while confirming that the Jirga was meeting said, "We prefer the militants surrender peacefully and also to ensure that women and children are allowed to leave the cordoned area. We take extra care of non-combatants."
