Hindustan Times reports that suspected cadres of the People’s Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA), military wing of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), attacked two construction companies after the firms failed to pay levy demanded by the PLGA cadres in Bhabua city of Kaimur District on February 26. The 60-member squad of PLGA cadres attacked the construction of a siphon-bridge of Durgawati Reservoir Project on Hundari hills, assaulted workers and forced them to stop work until the contractor paid them 10 percent of the cost of the work. Later, in the night the cadres again attacked the camp of the road construction company and set ablaze machines worth INR 5 million, Police said. “The Maoists had planted landmines on the approach roads making the operation difficult,” Shahabad Deputy Inspector General of Police Sushil Khopde said.

Six Policemen were injured when over 300 motorcycle-borne stone pelters attacked Nowhatta Police Station in Srinagar on August 28, reports Daily Excelsior. The stone pelters also lobbed two petrol bombs on Police. Police during the clashes, which lasted for five hours, arrested over 70 attackers and seized 10 bikes. This was for the fourth consecutive Friday this month when stone-pelting incidents were witnessed in the Nowhatta area. Police said the stone pelters have of late been using motorcycles to throw stones at Security Forces (SFs) and fled away quickly. "The typical practice is that such bikes carry three people, one rides the bike, the man in the middle has stones in his lap and the one at the back hurls them at the security forces. And they move at a menacing speed," Police said. The Nowhatta Police Station was the main target of the stone pelters in summer agitation in 2010.

The Statesman reports that angry villagers set two motorbikes of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist)-backed Peoples’ Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) cadres on fire and vandalised a Tata Sumo before pushing it into a pond when the PCPA cadres went to Dhanguri village under Sankrail Police Station in West Midnapore District to bring in villagers to a rally at Ramkrishna Vidyalaya ground in Lalgarh and beat people who refused to attend the rally. The Democratic Forum against Terror, Corruption and Imperialistic Aggression organised the rally at the venue to protest against the Government’s policies. Chhatradhar Mahato, the jailed leader of PCPA, had contested the Assembly poll under the banner of this forum. “Two villagers were injured during the clash, but the PCPA activists fled the scene after facing strong resistance," said Alok Rajoria, Additional Superintendent of Police. The PCPA cadres but also faced resistance at other villages in Binpur, Belpahari, Gopiballavpur, Salboni and Nayagram where many villagers declined to attend the rally, a senior Police officer said. Several frontal outfits of Maoists and sympathisers attended the rally, but the gathering was not up to the expectation of the organisers, a Police officer said. “They expected a gathering of 50,000 people, but it was hardly 10 to 15,000," a senior Police officer posted at the venue said.
