Police arrested a drug smuggler and recovered five kilograms of heroin worth INR 250 million in the international market from Indo-Pak International Border (IB) near Hussainiwala in Ferozepur District of Punjab on January 9, reports The Tribune. The arrestee, identified as Dalbir Singh aliasDallu, a resident of GattiMathar village, in Lakho ke Behram area was arrested with 250 grams heroin. Later on, based on his disclosure, in a joint operation with Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, five kilograms heroin, one pistol, 2 magazines, 18 live cartridges and Pakistani currency worth INR 1,100 were recovered at the designated place across the fencing near the IB. “During preliminary investigation, it came to the fore that Dalbir had links with Pakistan-based drug smugglers and was in touch with cross-border drug peddlers through the social media,” said a Police official.

The Counter Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on January 15 recovered four kilograms heroin worth INR 200 million in the international market from International Border (IB) in Ferozepur District of Punjab, reports The Tribune. The consignment was recovered following the inputs provided by a drug peddler – Malkeet Singh alias Kala (35) who was arrested by the Police on January 10. “During preliminary investigation, it came to the fore that Malkeet had links with Pakistan-based drug smugglers and was in touch with cross-border drug peddlers through the social media. At least, 13 Pakistan mobile numbers were found in his mobile,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh said.

A Pro-Khalistan militant identified as – Gurpinder Singh (37), with alleged links to the banned terror group, Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF), was arrested by a joint team of Punjab and Maharashtra Police in Nanded city in Nanded District of Maharashtra on February 7, reports The Times of India.A resident of Gurusar in Muktasar SahibDistrict in Punjab, Gurupindar along withfour other pro-Khalistan militants was active in fundraising and collecting arms from abroad for the movement.He had hatched a plot to assassinate Hindu leaders who opposed the Khalistan movement. An FIR was registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, along with sections of the Indian Arms Act, by Punjab’s special operation cell in Amritsar on December 19, 2020, naming four suspects, three of whom have been arrested while another is in Belgium. “Three of the arrestedsuspects — Sarabjit Singh alias Kirat, Amandeep Singhalias Bhinder and Gurdeep Singh alias Baghi — are active members of KZF and were conspiring to commit terrorist activities in Punjab.They are in touch with Belgium-based KZF terrorist Jagdish Singh alias Bhoora, who is motivating and facilitating them by arranging funds from different countries, procurement of weapons and asked them to recruit people to carry out terror activities. These suspects have already acquired arms and ammunition and were planning to carry out targeted killings of leaders of Hindu organisations and people who are against the Khalistani ideology, to disturb communal harmony and law and order in the state of Punjab”, states the FIR.

A joint team of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh Police arrested an accomplice, identified as Jagdev Singh alias Jagga, of two Pro-Khalistan terrorists – Paramjit Singh Pammah and Maltani Singh from Vikas Nagar area in Lucknow District of Uttar Pradesh on February 8, reports ANI. Paramjit is currently in the UK while Malatani is in Germany. Both of them are accused of carrying out anti-national activities in Punjab and trying to promote terror and harm peace and religious tolerance. According to the Police, Paramjit and Maltani were allegedly preparing Jagdev Singh to carry out anti-national activities and with the money provided by them, he along with his partner Jagroop Singh bought guns and cartridges from Madhya Pradesh. Punjab Police had already arrested Jagroop on February 7.

The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, on February 11, arrested a drug peddler, identified as Mandeep Singh, near Attari along the International Border (IB) with Pakistan in Amritsar District of Punjab, reports The Tribune. During search across the barbed fencing, the personnel recovered 10 packets containing 10.7 kilograms of heroin.The BSF observed suspicious activity on the Indian side of the border. When challenged, the BSF men heard sounds cocking of weapons and opened fire in self-defence. Mandeep was injured while his accomplice fled from the spot. During search, the BSF found heroin in a bag.

Police on February 14 arrested three suspects – Lakhwinder Singh (23), Satnam Singh (20)and Balwinder Singh from Sriganganagar District of Rajasthan, for their alleged role in drug smuggling from across the border on the night of February 7-8 in the Hindumalkot Police Station limits in the said District, reports The Tribune. While Lakhwinder and Satnam were arrested from Dullapur Keri village, Balwinder was arrested from Pakki village in the District. On the night of February 7 and 8, four Punjab based smugglers reached the suspects’ fields at Hindumalkot to collect a drug consignment from Pakistani smugglers. As the smugglers threw heroin packets from across the border, BSF personnel got sniff of it. The four allegedly fled with 5kilograms heroin from the spot. The Police claimed at least four suspected smugglers from Ferozepur and Fazilka Districts of Punjab had fled with 5-kilograms heroin. A packet containing 1kilogram heroin was found at the spot.Investigation indicated Lakhwinder facilitated the visit of smugglers from Punjab to his fields. Footage of the location of the International Border (IB) was also made available to them for easy access to Pakistan smugglers to take heroin consignments.

A person was arrested from Arbi Ki GafanChouraha in Barmer District of Rajasthan along with 7kg of heroin worth Rs 11 crore in the international market, reports The Times of India on February 17. According to Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), the arrestee Bachaya Khan had brought the contraband from Pakistan on the intervening night of February 15 and February 16 and buried in his house which is located very close to the international border (IB). On February 17, another person, Mere Khan, co-accomplice of Bachaya Khan was arrested in this connection. Both the accused were in touch with the international drug racketeers in Tarantaran in Punjab. Indian smuggler Meera Khan had taken those packets and given them to Haliya Khan. Haliya Khan had given the packets to Bachaya Khan for making delivery in Tarantaran district, Punjab. Following this incident, local Police and BSF carrying out search operations in several places along the border.

Punjab Police busted a terror module by arresting two persons, including former Akal Takht Jathedar Jasbir Singh Rode’s son Gurmukh Singh from his house in New Hardial Nagar in Jalandhar District of Punjab on August 20, reports Hindustan Times. The other person arrested was identified as Gagandeep Singh of Phagwara in Kapurthala District. According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, the Kapurthala Police recovered two hand-grenades, a box of detonators, two tubes suspected to containing RDX, a roll of wire used in explosives, INR 375,000 Indian currency, a licensed pistol, 14 Indian passports, a .30-calibre pistol and two magazines from Gurmukh’s house. Also, Police seized a tiffin bomb, three hand-grenades, four Glock pistol magazines and packaging material from the Gurmukh’s office near Jalandhar bus stand. Reportedly, Gurmukh has been working for a local vernacular newspaper. Kapurthala Police reached Gurmukh after the arrest of one Gagandeep Singh of Phagwara with an illegal pistol. “During investigations, Gagandeep revealed that the pistol was part of a larger weapon consignment that had been sent from across the border through drones over the last few months,” the spokesperson said. He also disclosed that a major part of the consignment was with his friend Gurmukh. A senior Punjab Police official supervising the operation in Chandigarh said the tiffin bomb found at Gurmukh’s house is identical to the one recovered from Amritsar District on August 8, a case now being probed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Gurmukh is associated with International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF). His father Rode is the nephew of slain militant preacher Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Rode’s brother Lakhbir Singh Rode is one of the most-wanted Khalistan militants in India and is believed to be currently in Pakistan.

Those arrested are identified as Gurwinder Singh of Rampur in Khanna; and Jagwinder Singh and Sukhdev Singh, both of Morinda in Ropar. The Police have also booked Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, Harpreet Singh, Bikramjeet Singh and Gursahai Makhu, all based in the US, and Jagjeet Singh Mangat of Khanna. Police have recovered over 2.8 lakh pamphlets carrying propaganda material related to ‘Referendum 2020’ from their possession during the raid conducted at Rampur village in Khanna. A printer, spray pump and spray bottles for writing secessionist graffiti on walls, one laptop, three mobile phones and one Honda City car were also recovered. During investigation, it has been found that the accused Gurwinder Singh was radicalised and motivated over a YouTube channel, US Media International, being operated by JS Dhaliwal, who introduced him to Pannun. A Police spokesperson added that on Pannun’s instructions, Gurwinder hoisted Khalistani flags on the premises of the Government school in Rampur village. Police claimed that Gurwinder had enrolled 20-25 persons to promote ‘Referendum 2020’ by distributing pamphlets for different groups in the vicinity of Doraha in Ludhiana. All these persons were paid for their service at the behest of Pannun. An First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under Sections 124A (sedition) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) and others of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 17, 18, 20, 40 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in SAS Nagar.

The Police also recovered two boxes packed in foam (which appeared to be Tiffin Bombs), two hand grenades (86P) and three 9mm pistols from their possession. This is the 6th Tiffin bomb recovered from the border State of Punjab in one and a half months. The Police claimed to have foiled a plan to kill Dera Sacha Sauda follower Shakti Singh, who is an accused in three Bargari sacrilege cases of 2015, with the arrest of a person, identified as Bhola Singh alias Khalsa, allegedly carrying two weapons in Faridkot District of Punjab province, reports The Tribune on October 2. Shakti Singh is believed to be on the target list of banned Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF). Bhola, of Jeon Wala village under Faridkot Tehsil (revenue sub-division) in Faridkot District, is facing as many as five criminal cases, including murder and extortion. The Police had got a tip-off about the threat to the life of Shakti Singh after four KTF operatives were arrested and interrogated by the Moga Police in May this year. These operatives were arrested by the Police for the alleged killing of a Dera follower in Bathinda last year. Shakti Singh and five other Dera followers were arrested by the Police on May 16 this year. However, after Shakti Singh was released on bail on July 28, there were increased threats to his life.

Four aides of Canada-based Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) operative Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh Dala, a close aide of KTF’s Canada-based ‘chief’ Hardeep Singh Nijjar, were arrested with three sophisticated weapons, 14 live cartridges and 300 grams of heroin, from Mehna Police Station area in Moga District of Punjab on October 1, reports Hindustan Times. The arrestees have been identified as Amandeep Singh alias Machher of Ferozepur, Jaswinder Singh alias Jassu of Kokri Klan village, Balraj Singh and Arun Sarwan of Moga. They were booked under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and 25 (6) (7), 54 and 59 of the Arms Act at the Mehna Police Station. Moga District Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Dhruman H Nimbale said they arrested Amandeep with a Beretta M9 pistol, four live cartridges and 300gm of heroin. Arsh Dala contacted Amandeep through Facebook, where he lured and manipulated him to get his work done. Later, Arsh told him to collect the Beretta pistol from Jaswinder Singh. “During investigation, Jaswinder revealed that apart from Amandeep, he had given two more Beretta pistols and 10 live cartridges to Balraj Singh and Arun Sarwan of Moga. “Acting on the information, we arrested Balraj and Sarwan with two pistols, 10 live cartridges and a Mahindra Scorpio SUV,” he added. “Preliminary investigation reveals that Arsh had provided these weapons to his associates. We are trying to figure out how and from where he got these weapons,” said the SSP. Police said Arsh, along with KTF’s Canada-based ‘chief’ Nijjar, is co-conspirator behind targeted killing in Punjab, including murder of Dera Sacha Sauda follower and firing on a priest in Nijjar’s village. Besides, he was also the prime accused in murder of gangster Sukha Lamme and a trader in Moga. Currently, he is hiding in Surrey city in British Columbia of Canada. The Union Government has notified Nijjar as a “designated terrorist” under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

A 36-year-old former member of Assam’s now-defunct Bodo Liberation Tiger Force (BLTF), Sanjay Bharao, was arrested on October 11, for running a gun-manufacturing unit from a rented accommodation in Model Town in Bathinda District of Punjab, reports Hindustan Times. Police said two country-made pistols and two semi-finished weapons were recovered from his house in Model Town in Phase-1 locality. Police said it was for the first time in recent years that an improvised weapon manufacturing unit was found in Punjab. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Aaswant Dhaliwal said several tools used to manufacture arms were also seized. The DSP said, “We had inputs about a suspicious person. On questioning, the person turned out to be an active member of Bodo Liberation Tiger Force. Assam police authorities confirmed that Bodo had surrendered in 2003 and after that, he disappeared.” Police said Bharao was staying alone in the rented accommodation since July. The accused left Assam and did odd jobs at various places outside before landing in Bathinda four months ago. “Bharao has revealed identify of his old friend, a plumber from Muktsar, currently residing in Bathinda with his family. Teams are trying to locate him to find out if he too was involved in manufacturing illicit arms. His background is being verified,” said the DSP.

The German Police have arrested Sikh for Justice (SFJ) militant Jaswinder Singh Multani (45) in Germany, for his alleged involvement in the blast at a Ludhiana court on December 23 and planning to target Delhi and Mumbai, reports india.com. Jaswinder is a close associate of SFJ founder Gurpatwant Singh Pannu and is reportedly involved in separatist activities. According to media reports, Multani was picked up by the Federal Police from Erfurt after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Government requested the German authorities to arrest the pro-Khalistan radical who has links to Pakistani, and has been involved in smuggling of arms and ammunition from across the border into Punjab. The blast at the Ludhiana court on December 23 killed one person and injured at least five others. The initial probe indicated that he attack was carried out by Pakistan-based terror outfits through local gangsters. The prime suspect – Gagandeep Singh – an ex-Police personnel – was killed in the blast. As per reports, the blast occurred in a District Court Complex washroom on the third floor inside the court premises. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Harcharan Singh Bhullar said two persons, identified as Jagmeet Singh and Ravinder Singh, were visiting various religious and public places and distributing some registration forms to people to vote for a referendum to form Khalistan. The pro-Khalistan material was being provided by Jagmeet Singh's mother Jasveer Kaur and she was also arrested, adding that a large quantity of pro-Khalistan material was recovered from the possession of the accused. Notably, the US-based Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), a pro-Khalistan group, had pushed for a referendum as part of its separatist agenda. SSP, Bhullar said initial interrogation of the accused revealed that the kingpin of the gang was Jasveer Kaur and her husband Kuldeep Singh who works as a superintendent at Punjab Roadways. The SSP said Jasveer Kaur's brother-in-law Manjit Singh was the ‘area commander’ of the terrorist organisation Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), Sukhdev Babbar Group. Jasveer Kaur, Jagmeet Singh and Ravinder Singh were produced in a court which sent them to six-day Police custody.
