A group of around 40 cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) set ablaze 27 vehicles at a road construction site near Lekha (Menda) village on Godalvahi-Dhanora road in Gadchiroli District on January 13, reports The Times of India. The area is some 6km from the state highway connecting Gadchiroli and Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh). The Maoists, most likely to be members of Tippagarh dalam (armed squad) and a platoon dalam, chased away the site supervisors before setting the vehicles afire. Reports said 20 tractors, two JCB machines, a road roller, two water tankers and two bikes were set afire. There were no injuries or casualties in the incident.

However, the Police department could not confirm the reports. Sources claimed that three vehicles belonging to a Hyderabad-based construction company were set ablaze near Kosmi village in the afternoon. A gang of over 30 armed Maoists reached the construction site and set ablaze a JCB, tractor and water tanker, with the help of fuel taken out from the same vehicles.

Two tractors, a bike and a mixture machine were set ablaze by the armed cadres of the Peoples' Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a breakaway faction of the Communist Party of India (CPI-Maoist), at Pathakpagar under Tarhassi Police Station in Palamu District on February 12, reports The Times of India. Palamu Superintendent of Police (SP) A T Mathew said more than a dozen armed PLFI cadres came to the work site, which is a 125 metre-long bridge on river Saphee, at around 11.45 pm and set ablaze the property of the contractor. Earlier in the day, Maoists had set ablaze the house of another PLFI ‘zonal commander’ Laxman Yadav in Paki in Palamu District. Police officials said the PLFI was trying to reorganise in the two adjoining Districts in west Jharkhand. “We had arrested PLFI cadres two years back. A trader was transporting about 70 bags of Tendu leaf after buying it from Khariar. "The Maoists asked the truck driver to get down. Then they lighted the diesel tank and stayed at the spot till the truck was reduced to ashes,” said a police officer quoting the driver. They however didn't leave any poster at the spot. In 2012, the Maoists set four Tendu leaf godowns on fire in Badabanki, Sanabanki, Dharamsagar and Sanmaheswar under Khariar division. The group, comprising around 15 people, accused the gram panchayat member, who is an environmental activist, of “aiding the government in displacing the tribal people.” The Maoists, all below the age of 30, knocked on the door of Ramachandra Bhat (42), the former gram panchayat member and currently working for the non-governmental organisation, Wild Cane, that seeks to rehabilitate villagers in the national park, and asked him to come out. When he refused, they set fire to a shed and van parked there. They also set fire to a two-wheeler. The Police said the ‘Maoists’ did this in protest against what they termed as forcible eviction of tribals from the park area.

The bandh virtually crippled life in Dumaria, Imamganj, Banke Bazar, Raushanganj, Mohanpur and Gurua Police Station areas of Gaya District and Nabinagar, Amba, Deo and Madanpur areas of neighbouring Aurangabad District. The impact of the bandh under Gurua Police Station area of Gaya has caused concern in administrative circles as, in recent times, Maoist activity in the Gurua area was much less and earlier bandh calls given by the Maoists were largely ignored by the villagers. Somalingam Padal and burnt a motorcycle belonging to Satyanarayana, an employee of the coffee plantation, at Pedavalasa of G.K. Veedhi mandal (administrative unit).
