Security Forces (SFs) destroyed a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) camp in Pujariguda forest at Bonda Ghat area in Malkangiri District of Odisha on January 16, reports Odishabytes. As per the report, a joint team of the District Voluntary Force (DVF) and Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel conducted a search operation on January 13 on the basis of the intelligence input about Maoists having set up a camp inside the forest. The Superintendent of Police (SP), Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo said, “During the search operation on January 16, the Maoists hiding inside the forest suddenly opened fire on us. An exchange of fire ensued and the Maoists fled the area. The security personnel later busted a camp inside the forest and seized several articles. A fresh search operation has begun in the forest to track down the rebels.”

An exchange of fire took place between cadres of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) and Security Forces (SFs) in the Sumerbandh area under Phiringia Police Station limits in Kandhamal District of Odisha on January 18, reports The Pioneer. On receiving inputs about the presence of Maoists of the KKBN (Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh) Division in the forest, Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel launched a combing operation. But spotting the SOG personnel, the Maoists opened fire, to which the police retaliated leading to a gun-battle. However, there were no reports of any casualties from both sides. Following the gunfight, the SFs destroyed a Maoist camp and have launched a combing operation in the area to trace the fleeing Maoists.

The Security Forces (SFs) neutralised a camp of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) after an exchange of fire with Maoists in Rayagada District of Odisha on January 26, reports The Times of India. According to Superintendent of Police (SP), Saravana Vivek M., on receiving a tip-off about the presence of the Maoists at a road construction site in Niyamgiri forest, a joint team of SFs launched a combing operation in the area. On seeing the SFs, the Maoists detonated three Improvised Electronic Devices (IEDs). The SFs escaped the explosion and retaliated leading to a gun-battle and subsequently destroying the Maoist camp. No injuries were reported from both sides in the incident. The SFs seized a huge cache of ammunition and other material from the camp.

An exchange of fire took place between Security Forces (SFs) and cadres of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in the Bondapada-Sambalpur forest area under Mudulipada Police Station limits in Malkangiri District of Odisha on February 16, reports The Pioneer. There were, however, no reports of any casualty in the incident. As per the report, acting on input about the movement of 20 to 30 armed Maoists in the said forest, a joint team of District Voluntary Force (DVF) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Odisha Police launched a combing operation. On spotting the SFs, the Maoists opened fire leading to a gun-battle. The rebels backtracked and managed to escape into the dense forest leaving behind their belongings and articles. The SFs recovered Maoist uniforms, kit bags, mobile phone and other articles were from the encounter site.

An exchange of fire took place between Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres and the Security Forces (SFs) inside Dulduli forest under Mathili Police Station limits in Malkangiri District of Odisha on April 22, reports The Hindu. No casualty was reported in the incident. According to the Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP), Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo, following intelligence reports on the congregation of armed Maoists at the said forest near Tulsi pahad hill, personnel of the Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) of Malkangiri had launched “cordon and search” operations in the area. During the operation, the SFs discovered a secret camp of the Maoists and on seeing the SFs, the Maoists opened fire at them leading to an exchange of fire. While taking advantage of the hilly terrain near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, the Maoists at the spot managed to escape, however, they left behind goods they were using, including explosive materials that were seized by the SFs.

The Security Forces (SFs) busted a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) camp following an exchange of fire with the cadres and seized explosive materials and ammunition in Chandili forest near Bartia village under Khaprakhol Block(administrative unit) in Bolangir District of Odisha on April 23, reports Kalinga TV. No casualty was reported in the incident. As per the report, acting on a tip-off about the presence of the Maoists, the Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel launched a combing operation in the said forest. When the SFs discovered a Maoist camp in the forest, a gun-battle broke out between the two parties. Although the Maoists managed to escape from the spot, they left behind their belongings, including some explosives and other items. A senior Police Official said, “We have seized tents, water containers, food items and clothes. Some live bullets were also recovered from the spot,” adding that the combing operations will continue in the region.

In a joint operation, the Security Forces (SFs) comprising personnel of Special Operations Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) commandoes, busted a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) camp following an exchange of fire in Patdhara reserve forest under Boden Police Station limits in Nuapada District of Odisha on May 7, reports Orissa Post. According to the Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinit Agrawal, an anti-Maoist operation was launched on May 6 based on intelligence inputs and combing operations was going on in the area. The camp was sighted in the morning of May 7. The Maoists opened fire at the SFs following which the team retaliated leading to a gun-battle which compelled the Maoists fled the area. “More than seven rebels fled the spot after 25-30 round exchange of fire between the SF team and Maoists,” the SP said adding that during a search operation, the SFs recovered Maoist literature and other articles.

Acting on a tip-off regarding a Maoist camp, District Voluntary Force (DVF) and Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel raided the spot in the early hours of the morning. An exchange of fire broke out between the two sides, during which four of the Maoists sustained bullet injuries and died. Though, the slain Maoists have been identified as members of 'Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) Division', their identities are yet to be ascertained. Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres including a woman, were killed in an exchange of fire with Security Forces (SFs) in the Sirla reserve forest area in Kandhamal District of Odisha on July 23, reports Hindustan Times. According to the Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay, a team of SFs comprising Special Operations Group (SOG) and the District Voluntary Force (DVF) were patrolling in the said forest area of the District when they came under fire from the Maoists. “The Police Forces fired in self-defense. After the exchange of fire ended, the SOG and DVF spotted two bodies - a male and a female. Both were in Maoist uniforms. The Security Forces (SFs) neutralised four Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) camps following an exchange of fire with the rebels in the Gandhamardhan reserve forest in Bargarh District of Odisha on August 8, reports The Pioneer. ¬According to Police, acting on an intelligence input regarding the camping of Maoists in the said forest, Special Operation Group (SOG) teams of Bargarh and Balangir Districts along with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) platoons launched a joint operation in the area. On seeing the SFs, the Maoists opened fire leading to a gun-battle. The Maoists, however, managed to escape taking advantage of the dense forest and heavy rainfall, the Police said adding that four Maoist camps were neutralised and live ammunition as well as empty cartridges, Maoist literature written in Hindi and Odia, among other articles were recovered from the spot. Five Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, including a woman, and two Special Operations Group (SOG) commandos were killed in an exchange of fire between the Maoists and an anti-Maoist operations team in a forest in Kalahandi District, along the Kandhamal District border, of Odisha on September 9, reports The Indian Express. As per the report, acting on a tip-off about movement of a group of 20-25 Maoist cadres in Jerka reserve forest within M. Rampur Police Station limits of Kalahandi and Burhani forest in Kandhamal District, a joint operation was launched by Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) of both the Districts as well as two units of CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) and personnel belonging to CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action). The Kalahandi District Superintendent of Police (SP) B. Gangadhar said, during combing operations, the SFs came under indiscriminate firing from the Maoists. The forces fired in retaliation following which a group of rebels escaped to Birabaru reserve forest in Kalahandi and another fled to Birhani forest in Kandhamal taking advantage of dense forest cover of trees. A cadre of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) was arrested following an exchange of fire with the Security Forces (SFs) near GochhapadaBireni forest at Phulbani in Kandhamal District of Odisha on December 20, reports Odisha TV. A team of the SOG (Special Operations Group) and DVF (District Voluntary Force) troopers had conducted a raid after getting information about the presence of some Maoists in a camp in the dense forest. The Maoists opened fire after spotting the SFs thereby prompting the troopers to retaliate with gunshots. While eight to 10 Maoists escaped from the spot, SFs managed to arrest one of them and recovered two country-made weapons, 1 radio, medicines and other articles from the incident spot.
