According to media reports, left wing extremists (also called Naxalites) triggered a landmine blast in Saranda forest area of Chaibasa in the West Singhbhum district on April 7 night killing 20 policemen. The Inspector General of Police (Special Branch), G S Rath, stated that Superintendent of Police (SP) Praveen Kumar, who had been missing after the blast, was traced with minor splinter injuries and he was stated to be out of danger at Kiriburu Hospital. The SP was reportedly leading one of the two police parties which had gone for patrolling at Balibea, three km from Gua, when the incident occurred.

The Magistrate was patrolling when suspected left-wing extremists (also called Naxalites) of the outlawed Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) exploded a landmine and then opened fire near booth number one between the adjoining villages of Palma and Dharampur in Dhanbad district. In the encounter that followed, according to The Hindu, Sinha was killed on the spot, while four police personnel were injured. Two self-loading rifles, a carbine and an unspecified quantity of ammunition were taken away by the Naxalites, who were engaged in a fierce encounter with security forces soon after the incident. As reported earlier, the MCC had called for an election boycott and a statewide bandh (strike) on that day.

Four policemen, including a sub-inspector, were killed and three others sustained injuries during an encounter with left-wing extremists (also known as Naxalites) of the proscribed Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) near Khaki jungle in the Giridih district of Jharkhand on September 3. The encounter took place on the Dumri-Phusro road when MCC cadres exploded a landmine and subsequently opened fire at a police patrol party killing four of them on the spot, said Inspector General of Police, Rajiv Kumar. The Naxalites also looted two self-loading rifles and one pistol from the police before escaping from the incident site. According to police sources, four left-wing extremists (also known as Naxalites) belonging to the proscribed Maoist Communist Center (MCC) were killed in an encounter and two Forest Department personnel lost their lives during a landmine explosion triggered by the People’s War Group (PWG) cadres in the Latehar district of Jharkhand in separate incidents. The MCC cadres were reportedly killed in the encounter near Madaudih village on September 6-night after police raided the place. The police also recovered a country-made gun, two flashguns and 13 detonators from the incident site. Separately, a Forest Department official and a driver of the vehicle in which they were traveling died in the landmine explosion near Labernaka village on the same day.

Four persons, including a police inspector, were killed when a police jeep was blown up in a landmine blast triggered by left wing extremists (also known as Naxalites) of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) at Dogadoha in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on December 7. The landmine planted under a culvert exploded killing the four on the spot. The victims have been identified as Sushil Nag, Ghatsila circle inspector, his driver and two activists of 'Nagarik Suraksha Samity' (NSS), an anti-extremism outfit floated by the villagers and supported by the district police.
