Two troopers of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) battalion were injured following a gun battle with Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres who had opened fire in the jungles of Chintagufa Police Station in Sukma District while the security forces were on search operation, reports The Pioneer on January 21. Arms and ammunition were seized in huge quantity during the searching of area, said Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Sanjay Dhruv on January 20. The seized item include a 12 bore rifle, muzzle gun, Chinese hand grenade, bullets, Maoist literature, banner and other items were found.

Four Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, including a self-styled military company member who was allegedly involved in the Tadmetla (Dantewara District) incident in which 76 troopers were killed and carrying a cash reward of INR 100,000 on his head, were arrested after a prolonged gun battle in the forests between Kaika and Ghumra under the Bijapur Police Station limits Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on January 26, reports The Times of India. Those arrested were identified as Budta Gonde (26), Lakhmu Kadiyam (35), Sannu Lekam (28) and Lakshman Uike (25), who were allegedly handling the Maoist’s activities on national highway in south Bastar region, Bijapur Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukhnandan Rathore told PTI. A five kg tiffin bomb, a couple of detonators, bags, Naxal uniforms, their literature, other ammunitions and commodities of daily use were recovered from them, he said. According to the official, Gonde was a member of regional military company II of the CPI-Maoist.

Police and Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres exchanged gun fire near Kadhaikhodra village in Kanker District on February 2, reports outlookindia.com. A senior Police official said a patrolling party was engaged in area domination exercise to ensure protection to under-construction roads in the region when Maoists opened firing on the security personnel after spotting them near a rivulet close to Kadhaikhidra village. "Immediately jawans launched retaliatory attack breaking the ambush and begun encircling Naxals. The exchange took place for about half an hour. The Naxals retreated as the Police were fast zeroing in on them", the official added. Besides bombs, Police also found detonators and wire from the spot.

An unidentified Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre was killed in an exchange of fire with the Security Forces in the forest between Tamodi and Madpal villages under the Mirtur Police Station limits in Bijapur District during a search operation on February 15, reports The Hindu. A joint team of CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), a specialised unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and District Police force were on a combing operation in the Gangalur, Mirtur and Bhairmagarh region. Apart from the dead body of the Maoist, a .303 rifle, a muzzle loading gun, live cartridges and some Naxal literature were also recovered from the spot.

District Superintendent of Police (SP) Balrampur, GS Darro, said Police got tip off about the presence of the PLFI cadres at Lahsunpat and raided the area resulting in the arrest of the cadres. The encounter occurred between Todka and Savnar villages under Gangalur station limits when the Maoist ambushed a Police team. The Maoist cadre Hemla Budhu was killed when Police returned the fire. Police recovered a .303 rifle with 16 bullets, 7 rounds of a 12-bore gun, a pressure bomb mechanism device, a radio, battery and other articles, besides the Maoist's body from the spot.

Based on intelligence inputs that around 20-25 Maoists of Dallirajhra ‘area committee’, Pallemadi and Mangaltarai ‘local operation squads’ (LOS) were camping in Bodra Hills, Police personnel were mobilised in the region. Sensing the presence of security personnel near restive hills, the Maoists opened indiscriminate firing on them following which Security Forces (SFs) retaliated. After the ensuing gunfight that lasted for around an hour, Maoists fled to the core forest taking advantage of the darkness. Later a search operation was launched in the region during which one 315 bore rifle, live cartridges of 315 bore rifle, two INSAS rifle magazine, a wireless set, a solar plate, radio and batteries, six big and six small bags, Maoist uniform, school dress, medicines, commodities of daily use, Maoist literature and other Maoist-related things were recovered from the spot.

After the gun battle, Darbari's body was found. He was a resident of Murnar of Kanker District. According to Narayanpur Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) CD Tirkey, two more Maoists were killed and around three were stated to have been injured in the action but body of only one Maoist was found. Remaining two bodies were carried away by the insurgents. On receiving intelligence inputs about presence of Maoists in the hills of Baddongri near Ghotiyakanhar village a combined team of District Police, Special Task Force (STF) and Indo Tibetan Boarder Police (ITBP) personnel had started on an anti-Maoist operation from Aundhi Police Station on May 14. During the searching of area, Police had a face-off with the Maoists who opened indiscriminate fire on the Police party. Later on, during the searching of area, body of a Maoist was found who was identified as Pankaj ‘commander’ of Pendri Dalam (squad) of Maharashtra. An injured Maoist identified as one Pratap was also arrested from the spot, Police said. A semi-automatic SLR rifle, 12 bore gun, single shot rifle, SLR magazine, bullets and other items of daily use were also recovered from the encounter spot. Blood spots at the gun-battle suggest that about 2-3 Maoists would have been injured in the incident, Police added.

After reaching the jungles of Katema, the SFs and Maoists had an encounter following which the rebels fled away leaving behind computers, laptop (i-5 generation), mouse, backpacks, torches, cords, medicines and other items, Rajnandgaon, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjeev Shukla said. A Police team comprising District Force (DF) personnel had started on a search operation from the District headquarters on September 30. During the operation at different places, the Police teams were attacked by Naxals [Left Wing Extremists (LWEs)] who had also placed IED (Improvised Explosive Device) and pressure bombs in different places and a Head Constable of District Police, Dasrath Nag, was injured in one of the blasts during the operation, Superintendent of Police (SP), Bijapur, KL Dhruv said. While searching the area after the encounter in forests of Munga village, body of a Naxal was found who was identified as Korsa Ayatu (26) resident of Munga Devgudipara village. Ayatu was the ‘deputy commander’ of Chetna Natya Mandali (CNM) one of the offshoots of CPI-Maoist. He had joined Naxal cadre in 2005 as a 'sangham' member and in 2007 he became an active member of Gangaloor Local Operating Squad (LOS). After working as LOS for three years in 2011 he was made ‘deputy commander’ of CNM. A muzzle gun, backpack and items of daily use were found near the body, the SP said.
